I hope Aston doesn't give Woody Johnson any say so in running the team. His ownership of the NFL New York Jets is generally considered to be a disaster.
czechfog183624d ago
Even Johnson has stated that he will focus on increasing the fan engagement for AMR in the USA. He knows nothing about race cars or racing in general.

Is Fernando Alonso living in la la land, or do you still think Adrian Newey can lead Aston Martin to the very top?
czechfog183624d ago
Adrian Newey can lead the Aston Martin team to build a better car, but it takes more than one person these days. His engineering and technical staff needs to be first rate, top to bottom. But that Honda PU may continue to be a detriment to the team.
jkovac10130d ago
Je ali treba vrimena....🤔
jabo123472d ago
He's called a genius for a reason. I mean Adrian Newey didnt forget how to design a car overnight. He will help fix the 2026 car but in reality next year's car will be the one to judge
Should Adrian Newey's position be questioned if Aston Martin's upgrade doesn't work, or does he need more time?
matth73d ago
Yes
czechfog183676d ago
Why? If Stroll will not at least give AN another year, he is crazy. He made an investment in Newey and he needs to see if it will pay off. The Honda decision may be the absolute worst decision AMR made.
ahambly2381d ago
His position as team principal should definitely be questioned, but not his employment. Newey could still flourish if he was 100% focused on the chassis.

Was Fernando Alonso's 2021 comeback worthwhile, or has it ultimately been a waste of time?
matth73d ago
Well, we have the benefit of hindsight. I think he has had a positive influence on the team and F1.
ahambly2387d ago
2023 looked like we might have seen Alonso back on top, but Aston Martin were just a couple tenths short in the end. Other than the handful of podiums he claimed that year, and the part he played in Esteban Ocon's maiden win, it largely has just been a waste of time.
kyle.archer87d ago
Alonso clearly felt he still had a lot to offer in F1 when he returned. But Alpine nor Aston Martin have offered Alonso a car capable of achieving his targets of fighting for wins, let alone a third title. So, Alonso's return to F1 has at least somewhat wasted six years in which he could have completed motorsport's Triple Crown by winning the Indy 500.

Are Aston Martin below 'F1 standards' right now, or is Guenther Steiner being unfair?
czechfog183676d ago
Guenther is not totally wrong. Remember how the FOM thought that Michael Andretti's team would not bring value to F1?
fogclimber1998107d ago
Lawrence Stroll is definitely NOT getting his moneys worth!
♥ 1
david.comerford109d ago
Below F1 standard might be a bit too far, but Aston Martin can't complain about the criticism they're getting. They were supposed to join the elite this year but they're cut adrift in a manner we haven't seen for years

How will Fernando Alonso's Formula 1 career be remembered?
nedand107d ago
Alonso's career choices suggest that, if he moves, Aston Martin would be an excellent choice for any aspiring driver.
♥ 1
fogclimber1998107d ago
Great start, but then too many missed opportunities.
♥ 1
marcus.chan109d ago
One of the best ever drivers in F1 history but also someone who made the wrong moves!

What changes would you make to Fernando Alonso's perfect F1 driver?
ahambly23113d ago
I would potentially swap Piastri for Sainz in the intelligence category. The Spaniard is usually very sharp when it comes to making the right strategy calls in the heat of battle.
elizablackstock113d ago
Fernando Alonso definitely knows what makes a good driver, so I'm inclined to agree with him here! These days, I might add an 'energy management' skill, but I don't think we have enough data to figure out exactly who's top there!
kyle.archer113d ago
Fernando Alonso obviously could not pick himself, otherwise he would be the king of defensive driving and racecraft.

Would Fernando Alonso make a good team principal once he retires from F1?
fogclimber1998107d ago
He would become the darling of the media!
♥ 1
ahambly23113d ago
For sure, although I can't help but feel he would be way better as a social media influencer for a team instead... 😂
kyle.archer113d ago
Fernando Alonso is a wily old fox, and he could certainly cause some rival teams problems with his political game-playing

When do you expect Fernando Alonso to retire from F1?
Explain your choice in the comments 👇
czechfog183676d ago
I think he is done at the end of 2026.
fogclimber1998107d ago
He will likely return for 2027. Either at AMR or Alpine.

From 21st on the grid, Fernando Alonso finished the Monaco GP in the points! What is it going to take to replicate that performance later this season?
Photo credit: 2026 Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team
seanfisher119d ago
Credit to him for keeping clean and consistent in what was a chaotic race Unfortunately for Aston Martin, they will need another race with just as much chaos to add to the points tally
david.comerford119d ago
Based on what Alonso is saying, we could maybe see the odd points finish in the second half of the year. But I wouldn't be *that* shocked if this is the only one
♥ 1

What have you made of Lance Stroll's attitude at Aston Martin this season?
czechfog183625d ago
Not much for him to say. But he needs to consider moving on from F1. Go race in the WEC.
aaditya.krishnamurthy129d ago
I get it, Stroll isn't the most revered driving, but I really don't know what else he's expected to say.
ahambly23131d ago
With the reliability issues that Aston Martin have faced in 2026, Stroll should be relishing the opportunity to collect as much data as he can for engineers to turn things around. This type of attitude definitely isn't helping the cause.

Which racing series do you want to see Fernando Alonso conquer after Formula 1?
aaditya.krishnamurthy143d ago
As a fan, I want to see Alonso win the Indy 500. I've seen him in IndyCar, but I am begging to see him win it all at the Speedway

Will Fernando Alonso score another Grand Prix win before he retires?

fogclimber1998145d ago
Not likely at all. Alonso should retire from F1 before he gets too old to do something else.

It's hard to see how this could happen unless he races to a ridiculous age

Is this the reason Fernando Alonso hasn't had more success in F1?
An ex-Ferrari engineer says he gets caught up in team politics
david.comerford145d ago
This guy has actually worked with him so he's seen it first hand
♥ 1
aaditya.krishnamurthy145d ago
I think Alonso’s lack of championship success is down to multiple factors. Team politics is one of them, but so is his team choice, circumstances, and just luck
kyle.archer145d ago
Fernando Alonso has certainly not done himself some favours throughout his career, which cost him the chance to be at McLaren when Lewis Hamilton won his first title and the Spaniard later left Ferrari to re-join McLaren for their ill-fated Honda reunion.

Should F1 teams help Honda and give them extra upgrades in 2026?
fogclimber1998136d ago
The very idea of allowing them to break the cost cap is ludicrous! Honda is one of the teams that wanted this nonsense and now they screwed it up? Tough luck. If they want to turn tail and run, let them do it. We all expect them to quit if F1 goes to a V8 ICE and a much smaller hybrid. Let them leave!
♥ 1
fogclimber1998145d ago
Of course not! It is a competition and you do not aid you rivals!
aaditya.krishnamurthy157d ago
Outside of setting a bad precedent, which would be a valid reason, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't. Now I'm not saying Honda or Aston Martin deserve the help, but their performance has been one of the worst things to see this season.

When will Aston Martin score their first podium of the Adrian Newey era?
And will they get one at all?

The moment Alonso retires that Aston is going to start flying and be a championship contender.
tyler.rowlinson157d ago
There’s no chance it happens this year, unless some form of miracle from Newey or Honda or a crazy race. 2027 is probably most realistic

Has Lawrence Stroll made too many changes at Aston Martin?
czechfog183676d ago
Definitely!
fogclimber1998145d ago
Lawrence Stroll is like the Congress in the USA. Just throw lots of money at it and the problems will disappear. It never works. He has built a great facility for the team, but other decisions he has made are poor at best. He did not back up Andy Cowell in the disagreement with Adrian Newey and he gave Newey too much power. Honda is another mistake.

czechfog183624d ago
This year has been severely damaged by all the problems from Honda. The car is being improved at a faster rate than the power unit.

It's not as if Red Bull was Adrian's only success. His McLaren and Williams cars were dominant too. Now Honda have fixed the vibration let's see, with some more power after the ADUO.

Lance Stroll believes a win is possible during his GT3 debut 👀
But where do you think the Canadian's team will finish?
rebecca.braybrook177d ago
I'm not sure I could see the team winning but it will be interesting to see what his team can achieve considering that he's racing with Roberto Merhi and Mari Boya!

Did Aston Martin make a mistake dropping Mercedes as engine partners for Honda?
thieroffjurgen1175d ago
Rather discuss how large a mistake
fogclimber1998177d ago
Yes, and this is typical of the arrogance of Lawrence Stroll. He thinks his money can beat people who are wiser about F1 than he is.

Did Honda not Mercedes ass last year!!

Just one year left in Lawrence Stroll's five-year plan
Where will Aston Martin be in 2027?

I think the RBR were lucky to get rid of Adrian Newey. I also think that his best days, as a designer, are long gone. When you are the best, there's only one way to go and unfortunately for Mr. Newey that way is down
Can Aston Martin's relationship with Honda survive long-term?
fogclimber1998177d ago
They are stuck with each other for the length of the contract they signed.
Lance Stroll says they're having “own little Aston Martin championship” 🏆
fogclimber1998145d ago
That is all Lance can even try to handle.

Whenever Fernando Alonso out-qualifies Lance Stroll for a Grand Prix, he earns one point. But if Stroll out-qualifies Alonso for the first time since the 2024 British Grand Prix, he earns 10.

Gearbox or engine source of AM vibration issue
micky7759188d ago
Get Christian corner managing the job im sure it will get straightened out he's the man who would love to sort astin out.
gkncvfm6d9190d ago
Gary Anderson rubbished Honda claim that vibration from gearbox. The forcing frequency is shaft revs x # teeth on gear. So gearbox vibration much higher frequency than engine until we consider camshaft drive. So could be engine or gearbox. To resolve need to identify actual vibration frequency and then locate the element that resonates at said frequency.
Is Jonathan Wheatley the right man to get Aston Martin back on track in 2026?

I think aston martin pays lot of money , its a high reward and high pressure job , attrition is extremely high
czechfog1836199d ago
Surely his Audi contract requires him to take gardening leave. Why is Lawrence Stroll keeping Andy Cowell out of the loop? Can't Honda can fix their own issues; eventually? The technical issues are what is holding this team back. That is what Newey and the other engineers are in charge of. The TP is stuck with all of the external issues.

Is Felipe Massa being too harsh on Lance Stroll as Fernando Alonso’s teammate?
dougal1453199d ago
Massa ? He’s nothing but a complete & utter arsehole.. just go off & retire or give something back to F1 instead of sniping about what might have been.. you never were a champion unlike Alonso …. Take a leaf out of the book of other great Brazilian drivers & spend your time positively.
david.comerford199d ago
Alonso will feel like he's 65 when he climbs out of that vibrating Aston

aaditya.krishnamurthy200d ago
Lance Stroll is an easy target, I get that. But Alonso has had plenty of races at 42/43 where he couldn't beat Stroll. That's a crazy suggestion from Massa.

If Aston Martin decide to replace Adrian Newey as team principal, who should they sign?
czechfog1836199d ago
apparently they have picked Jonathan Wheatley. I have no knowledge of the gardening leave requirements of his contract with Audi. Stroll should have kept Andy Cowell in the role! Seidel got handed his walking papers by Sauber/Audi. Why hire him??
kyle.archer200d ago
Jonathan Wheatley has done a good job since taking over Audi, given the concerns that were emerging before he took charge.
aaditya.krishnamurthy200d ago
Lambiase might be a tough get, but it'd be a double-whammy. He'd help them almost instantly and he has an existing dynamic with Newey, who is leading the search for his replacement, meaning he'll likely still be with Aston Martin.
Should the FIA allow Aston Martin to race in these conditions?
paulpugh6192d ago
Does the 107% rule kick in with AM.
czechfog1836192d ago
There has to be a limit here and I agree with Gary Anderson that the FIA should find out what is going on. If a mechanic leaves a shop rag in the cockpit and the driver has to throw it out of the car, the team gets penalized. Is this car unsafe to drive? That has to be answered in a professional manner. Do not trust Aston Martin or Honda. Research the issue.
♥ 1
wilsonjimwilson200d ago
NO. If a cop saw you driving at 50kph with no hands on the wheel on a normal road, you would be punished. Driving an F1 car with no hands on the wheel at over 300kph is a huge danger to all drivers on track. FIA should ban Aston until their car is safe to drive.
When do you think Aston Martin will complete their first Grand Prix this season?
czechfog1836195d ago
Monaco is easier on the power, but hard to take your hands off the wheel like Alonso wants to do! It may be after the summer break before both cars can get to the end of a race. Will all of this encourage Alonso to retire? Will Lance Stroll decide to join him? I still think that Lawrence Stroll should have kept Andy Cowell as TP.
jkovac101196d ago

Have Aston Martin already 'completely ruined' their relationship with Honda?
nomin8option201d ago
Utterly epic failure.
jakethedane202d ago
I think firing Newey, would be s very bad decision by Stroll. When he joined Red Bull in eerly 2006, he had no influence on the car. In 2007, the team finished 5th, in 2008 they finished 7th. It took Newey two full seasons to break into the top, and in 2009 they finished 2nd. It takes time.
pohsottawa204d ago
Aston need a Christian Horner look alike. Somehow he managed a winning team AND massaged Newey AND kept Honda sweet for many years, until politics took over.. Perhaps some of his critics will now start to realize his value as a manager and a leader. Not forgetting RBPowertrains.. I'm only sorry that Stroll got sold a bill of goods.
How disappointed should Aston Martin be with their Australian Grand Prix performance?
mpdibiase207d ago
This was a big step for Aston Martin. I think they bit off more than they can chew. Bringing in an invested interest partner could help them get out of this rabbit hole. I here Christian Horner is looking into an investor/Manager position.
rebecca.braybrook209d ago
Considering there was so much hype for the first Newey designed car at Aston this year, this is a really terrible look for the team. Although to give them slight credit, both cars did far more laps than I expected and didn't a safety car!
aaditya.krishnamurthy209d ago
Just because it was expected doesn't mean it's any less frustrating. An unacceptable job in development by Alpine.
Should F1 stop Aston Martin from racing after Adrian Newey revealed Fernando Alonso's 'nerve damage' fears?
dougal1453199d ago
Vibration & nerve damage is the worst I know because I’ve suffered from white finger for over forty years, which was brought on by my work which wasn’t deemed a health issue back in the 70’s. I’m surprised Health & Safety of the drivers isn’t crawling all over this..Having no feeling in your hands for days on end Is the pits
wilsonjimwilson203d ago
The FIA should step in if any F1 driver is taking both hands off the wheel at all during races. Because they are F1 races. Obviously he was doing this on the straights, so going upwards of 300kph. It is a huge safety risk to Alonso and to all the other drivers if he is not actively controlling the car.
mattshark11207d ago
Honestly we've had 20 cars on grid for a while, if they need more time it should be granted. Tho they'll want to be out there gathering data.
Can Adrian Newey turn the Aston Martin AMR26 into a race-winning car in 2026?
wilsonjimwilson94d ago
Doesn't matter how good his chassis is if the PU is still terrible. So almost certainly no.

Prove us wrong: Fernando Alonso's faith in Adrian Newey is misguided this season after testing woes
ahambly23230d ago
An extreme design philosophy often comes with more gremlins than usual. Newey just needs time to see what works and what doesn't, only then will he be able to produce a dominant car for Aston Martin.
♥ 2
kyle.archer230d ago
If the AMR26 is still miles behind the top four F1 teams and struggling to even lead the midfield pack after the 2026 summer break, then there will be serious questions about the money that Aston Martin have spent and Adrian Newey's influence. Their new Honda engine is only a part of their problems.

Things look awful at Aston Martin at the moment, but it is a new regulation cycle. All teams will be scrambling to perfect their cars. If anyone can improve their situation, it's Newey

czechfog1836234d ago
Likely none, which will not please Lawrence Stroll at all. I will not blame Andy Cowell at all if he does leave the team by June. Adrian Newey is stuck on his "my way or the highway" mode and other engineers have already departed. This car could bring the end of Adrian Newy's career in F1.
ahambly23236d ago
Going to go out on a limb here and say none. Can't see him sticking around for more than 4/5 years, and I just don't see them reaching the top before then.

rene.gerritsen255d ago
I don't know and let's face it: nobody does. What I do know is that Honda is a Japanese brand and I don't think it is a cultural trait of the Japanese to hype themselves up in the media. Japanese culture loves humbleness, which maty have translated badly in Western media.
kyle.archer257d ago
Fernando Alonso will certainly hope it is... But the first priority has to simply be scoring his first pole position since 2012 and first Grand Prix win since 2013
