🚨Cristiano Ronaldo has officially announced his retirement from international football. Give us your immediate reaction

J

What a sad ending to one of the greatest international careers ever. He will still get his flowers but he’ll never be adored like he should have been. Shame his ego got in the way

F

freddie12h ago

Really thought he was gonna go for the 1000… thank god he’s gone. Portugal might acc win now!

Here's the Ballon d'Or top 10! What do you make of the rankings?

J

johnverrall1110d ago

So happy for Harry Kane! 🔥

E

edd10d ago

What i'm genuinely happy to see is a lack of CR7 in that list! ✅ I'd have put Yamal above Mbappe

L

Buzzing for Sir Harry! Ridiculed by his own fans across his career for England but thankfully his fellow professionals know ball!

From one legendary striker in Ronaldo, to another in Harry Kane. What an image. 👑

J

john.haigh9d ago

What is Rodri doing there? Where's Bellingham? Haarland shouldn't be in the top 10. He's an opportunist relying on players around him supplying tap ins. Apart from that contributes nothing to football.

E

edd10d ago

Get in there Harry! He was so chuffed when his name was called out. Fully deserved.. England Legend! 🦁🦁🦁

C

charlesjones10d ago

Who’s better? Considering the goals Kane has scored there may be a conversation to be had there.

Here's Harry Kane's acceptance speech:

I am almost speechless. Being here in London has made it extra special. Made it a good omen for me tonight. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I can imagine it was tough this year. Some world-class players in the room tonight. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees tonight and impressive showing determination and hard work can really achieve.
D

dale.odonnell10d ago

Deserving winner. Not just for how he carries himself on the pitch, but off it, too. A role model for the younger generations.

It's OFFICIAL! 🏆 Harry Kane WINS the 2026 Men's Ballon d'Or Award - thoughts? 👀

E

ericisgod669d ago

Finally the Ballon d'Or has regained some respectability.

T

thetruthpersonified10d ago

Brilliant, really pleased for Kane. However it really shows the PL players have little chance in raw numbers. Making Rodri's win even more valuable. Nobody, could get near Kane's figures in the PL. It is almost like a handicap system is required to make it fair. People vote for biggest numbers, meaning PL strikers are unlikely to win the award.

C

caleb.sage10d ago

The Bayern Munich move has really worked out for him. Wouldn’t get these kinds of numbers in a PL team.

Here's what Alexia Putellas had to say about winning the Ballon d'Or...

Thank you to the ones who thought I deserved this award. I don't know what to say, too many things! Congrats to all the nominees, congrats to all the winners. I want to start by saying thank you team-mates. I think anyone here could have fairly won this trophy and be giving this speech here right now. A great pleasure to play alongside each and every single one of you. Incredible experiences as a team, we overcome some difficulties, some injuries, some moments we weren't expecting as a team and a great pride for me as captain.

The Gerd Muller Award, as we already knew, has been won by Harry Kane.

Will he win the big one though...?

Champions League winners again and Men's Club of the Year again! PSG deservedly win the award.

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

Newcastle unbeaten in their last three games against the Men's Club of the Year winners 2025, 2026. You'll never sing that...

Open full discussion →

There is a very strong Barcelona and Spanish vibe to these awards… does that mean we should brace for a Lamine Yamal win?

J

jonny10d ago

I have thought it was his because the award usually boils down to individual honours really

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

Hope not, his time will come. He'll surely have better World Cups etc in the future even if Spain don't win another with him, and winning after that one he had would make this feel a bit meaningless

Open full discussion →

Yes, of course Barcelona Femini won the Women's Club of the Year award. They were unstoppable in 2026. Utterly unstoppable.

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

What a team. Will be getting these next year too no doubt

@markmarston has hailed Luis de la Fuente, but also gave Mikel Arteta some deserved props too.

Couldn't have been anyone else really could it...reached the pinnacle of football. If it wasn't a World Cup year, Arteta should've won it for ending Arsenal's two decade wait for a PL title.

Here's what Luis de la Fuente said on the stage after receiving his award:

To be among these nominees is just something very special. I would like to thank the rest of the nominees as they have done more than enough to deserve this.

🚨 Luis de la Fuente has won the Men's Coach of the Year award!

Well deserved? Or should Luis Enrique have won it?

C

charlesjones10d ago

Feel like there should be a separate award for club managers here. Such a different role.

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

Jaissle robbed. But in all seriousness, who else could it be? Best team at the World Cup and never really looked in danger of losing a single game

M

markmarston10d ago

Couldn’t be anyone else really could it… reached the pinnacle of football. If it wasn’t a World Cup year, Arteta should’ve won it for ending Arsenal’s two decade wait for a PL title

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

I'm glad he didn't after making us suffer through watching Arsenal last season

The first award of the night goes to Lamine Yamal! He's earned the '2026 Men Young Talent of the Year' award.

For the third year in a row. It makes sense. He is very good.

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

Pocketed by Lewis Hall for 89 mins (forget the fact he scored a peno). Fraud! 😂

M

Feel like this kinda suggests he won’t win the Ballon d’Or…

ARISE SIR HARRY, ITS HIS TIME 🏆

Open full discussion →

The favourite for the award though is Mr. Harry Kane. Considering he scored goals like this one in 2026, it's easy to see why.

D

daviescallum4210d ago

I’ll be so glad if he does win it, More than earned

A

adnan.riaz10d ago

Give it to Harry. He deserves it after the season that he had. 🔥

Open full discussion →

Lamine Yamal is rightfully in with a shout too. It's hard to argue that he's the most talented footballer of his generation, isn't it?

A

adnan.riaz10d ago

His generation is lacking compared with previous ones. It’s that simple. He’s doing well, but let’s not kid ourselves about the current state of football.

S

seanfisher10d ago

He’s incredible and his time will come but this isn’t his year

Kylian Mbappe did his Ballon d'Or award odds some favours on Sunday night with his stunning brace against Barcelona.

D

Messi still being in the top 10 is daft. He’s playing in a farmers league, as much as I love him

A

adnan.riaz10d ago

All steady, to be honest. It would be crazy if Messi somehow won it again. 😂

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

I'm a Messi fan boy and what he did in the World Cup was amazing but, come on, he surely can't win another 😂

Good evening and welcome to the Ballon d'Or ceremony LIVE with TalkingPoints! Who do you THINK will win the men's prize and who do you WANT to win it? 👀

D

daviescallum4210d ago

I really want Kane to win it, but genuinely think he deserves it much more

J

jonathan.gorrie10d ago

I'd love Kane to win it but I think Yamal will. Don't get the Mbappe shouts? Amazing player, lots of goals, but where did they get France or Real Madrid?! Leaves me a little cold.

G

Think and want Kane. Won’t be upset with Yamal but anyone else wouldn’t feel right

I can't believe Roy Keane didn't make the list. The most influential player for Manchester United throughout the glory years.

?

fan28d ago

S

stephenjholmes128d ago

It really is a travesty. George made football sexy.

C

charlesjones28d ago

He wouldn’t even be in the top 500!

S

stephenjholmes110d ago

Well give me vintage Roy Keane for United now. He would have sorted this current shambles with his stare. There wouldn't be a single passenger in the team.

D

dancoombs28d ago

I would not dismiss Keane so easily. Might be the only player I have seen get the better of Zidane- who is top 10

S

stephenjholmes128d ago

I can (as a United supporter) recognise how good Gerrard was. I can see that without his leadership and workrate Liverpool would have been in a worse position. We don't have to be supporters to recognise the tallent and class that a player has. Keane was instrumental in Uniteds success.

S

stephenjholmes128d ago

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Here are our top 10 footballers of all time! Messi takes the top spot while Cristiano Ronaldo is down in 6th... 👀 What are your thoughts?

B

barryhhd23d ago

Pele never left South America apart from retirement with Cosmos so I always find it a hard choice, Maradona galvanised Napoli, Messi and Ronaldo CR7 and R9, but I would put Marco Van Basten above Platini, what about Franco Baresi and Paulo Maldini?

J

james.brooke27d ago

Was Luis Suarez anywhere on the list? I think he was the only player to outscore prime Messi and Ronaldo while playing in the same league? Probably not top 10 but he shouldn’t be far off

T

thetruthpersonified27d ago

Suarez such a piece of human garbage that it make him difficult to place anywhere, as talented as he was..

M

markmarston27d ago

Nope not in top 50… neither was Neymar or Bale. Mental

J

james.brooke27d ago

Great top 10, nice to see someone use their brain and not just go with the easy option. Ronaldo 6th is absolutely fair in my opinion. Could be 5th or 4th maybe but I think he could conceivably be lower and it wouldn’t be a huge issue. R9 was a beast, still the best Ronaldo.

T

thetruthpersonified27d ago

No, R9 was not better than R7 Different sure, but better- no.

L

lategreat5328d ago

George Best is the No1 more ability than all of them but he will never be because of his lifestyle and wasn't around long enough

D

davecarey2828d ago

I waa privileges to watch George Best for years, his ability to dribble, score goals from nothing should have put him in the top 10.

D

dancoombs28d ago

A common theme from everybody who saw Best play

D

daviescallum4229d ago

Nice to see Andres Iniesta get some much deserved love

How has Mbappe frauded his way into the top 30 😭

T

thetruthpersonified31d ago

I am biased and of a certain age, but would anyone else hope/expect to see Cantona in the top 20? Remember I am a touch Biased, but what a talent

A

antonymmartin8432d ago

Maldini is the best defender of all time imo (alongside Bobby Moore 😉). Should be top 10. Absolute Rolls Royce.
