What did the Barcelona Grand Prix reveal about Formula 1 in 2026?

dmoxon111d ago

That, even his bad luck aside, George Russell is not currently performing at the level needed to become world champion. He was quicker than Kimi all weekend until it really mattered, in the race where his tyre management left a lot to be desired. Gained 18 points on Kimi but only because of his late DNF. Improvement needed from GR!

seanfisher111d ago

That Ferrari are developing… and quickly 🏎️

walkercharlie828111d ago

The biggest lesson should be for pirelli. Softer tyres, higher deg= brilliant races

We think Lewis Hamilton earns a perfect 10 for his Barcelona Grand Prix masterclass. What driver ratings would you change?

tonethegroan64106d ago

5 for Lawson. Ridiculous. He's 10th in the season battle and kicking arse. Along with Gasley, the 'best of the rest' IMO. Has a solid race after a great qualifying.

walkercharlie828111d ago

How Piastri can be over Gasly I don't know. Points in an alpine vs underperforming in a McLaren

aaditya.krishnamurthy111d ago

Suggest Hadjar was average with a 5 is very generous, he did not look very good at all, and his start was the reason why he dug himself such a deep hole.

Your championship standings after the Barcelona GP. How worried should Kimi Antonelli be about Lewis Hamilton?

chipurirotp101d ago

I think he is a proper threat remember that racing is not just the on track stuff it's also mental so if ferrari can put kimi under proper mental pressure and george try to beat him too he will cave

masternoah57111d ago

I think that Antonelli should be worried. Last season, he didn’t do great in European races, scoring just 2 points across them all. Granted, lots has changed since ‘25, most significantly being that he is actually beating Russell now, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be worried if a 7 (or 8…) time world champion is breathing down your neck.

callum_boyle111d ago

He’ll push Antonelli. It’s important that Mercedes keep him on track as his reason to retire was out of his control. Hamilton needs to back this result up consistently

Did the Barcelona GP earn a perfect 10/10, or was there more you wanted to see?

bizmail2roger111d ago

It’s as close as you can get. Pole sitter didn’t win, wasn’t a procession, some great overtakes, great strategy by Ferrari, F1 history made. Non- Hamilton fans won’t care he won first race for Ferrari but he’s oldest F1 driver ever to win any race + first all Brit podium since 1968.

srmills01111d ago

Amazing result for Lewis , he deserves it as he works so hard, thats why he can still do it , if he gets the car and it looks like Ferrari is going to be a force going forward, it will be so exciting seeing him go for his 8th WC , Ferrari's upgrades have propelled them , you cant hide at Barcelona, Ferrari and Lewis are back 😀

david.comerford112d ago

10/10 on the historic front, 7/10 as a race - more strategic intrigue than wheel to wheel racing

Lewis Hamilton looked just about perfect in Barcelona, but was there another standout driver that caught your eye?

boyscotty404111d ago

Hamilton the danger to kimi and Mercedes

xmcnst279111d ago

Isaac Hadjar

rainbowlovebow007111d ago

Sir Lewis Hamilton was unique caught my eyes little Kimi, may his road grow🌟🌟🌟

Lewis Hamilton wins his first race with Ferrari! 🎉 Where does this rank in Hamilton's most satisfying wins?

matth112d ago

He’s won so many, brilliantly, over the years. This has to be up there for the satisfaction for him. It’s been a long time coming with all the difficulties and controversy in the last 5 years. I guess his personal life is blooming too - everything is alignined at the mo. Hope he keeps it together and avoids ups/downs like when he was on/off with Nicole

david.comerford112d ago

One of the top five of his career I'd say, some of his title clinchers were low key compared to this!

leeconnor112d ago

Right up there, he’s always wanted a win in Ferrari Red. The GOAT doing GOAT things. Love to see it.

Your podium for the 2026 Barcelona GP 🇪🇸 But where does Lewis Hamilton finish without the VSC?

masternoah57111d ago

+20s gap proves he would’ve been P1 regardless. Great drive from him 🤩

david.comerford112d ago

The question is whether he could have made the overtakes on the Mercs. Given Ferrari's engine deficit, I have my doubts

aaditya.krishnamurthy112d ago

Today was brilliant from Hamilton, looked like his old self again

Kimi Antonelli retires from the Spanish Grand Prix! What does this mean for his championship chances?

david.comerford112d ago

Brundle was only saying in Monaco that Russell's bad luck would swing back round. That Mercedes is not reliable right now

aaditya.krishnamurthy112d ago

Is this the turning point for Kimi after a strong start? Second year in a row he’s DNF’d in Barcelona btw 👀

elizablackstock112d ago

The loss of points is definitely going to hurt, but my big question is how Antonelli recovers. This was a rocky weekend for him; is he going to let it get to him, or can he rebound?

🙂Add a comment…Open Discussion

Half race distance, who do we think is winning this from here? My money is on Antonelli with Hamilton having that extra stop and Russell struggling

seanfisher112d ago

This hurt to go back and read 😭 Kimi had such a good chance before that unfortunate engine problem

jamesshearman23112d ago

My money is literally on Hamilton! Come on Lewis! 🤩

vatsal112d ago

UNC union for the win Alonso doing Lewis a solid there. I believe🤞

Here’s how the grid will line up for the 2026 Barcelona Grand Prix! Give us your boldest prediction for the race! 🇪🇸

george.patten113d ago

Antonelli gets his first slice of bad luck this season, maybe an engine failure

dewal518113d ago

Verlander takes out Norris to ruin his chance of a Title run. Kimi & Russel go 1 & 2. 😆

fogclimber1998113d ago

It is possible that the front three will also be on the podium. But I would think that Antonelli can beat Hamilton over a race distance.

George Russell on pole, with Kimi Antonelli off the front row for the first time in 2026 😮‍💨 Who was the biggest surprise in qualifying in Barcelona?

jamesshearman23113d ago

Biggest surprise was Antonelli 3rd with the form he’s in

fogclimber1998113d ago

Ferrari with Hamilton in P2 and Leclerc in P10.

rebecca.braybrook113d ago

I think Nico Hulkenberg has slightly gone under the radar! He's finally made it into Q3 this season and broken that P11 ceiling he was so annoyed by previously! 🎉

It’s George Russell on pole in Barcelona! Rate his chances of cutting Kimi Antonelli's points lead with a victory on Sunday?

fogclimber1998113d ago

Russell has the edge and Antonelli need to race smart and not bin the car trying to beat him and Hamilton. But I do believe Antonelli can beat Hamilton by race end.

rebecca.braybrook113d ago

I really think it's down to which car can manage this intense tye degredation the best this weekend! I would LOVE to see Lewis take the win tomorrow!

walkercharlie828113d ago

He'll beat him on pace I'm sure. Depends on how quickly Kimi can get past lewis

It’s a red flag in Barcelona Q3 after Charles Leclerc's crash! 😓 What would be considered a successful recovery from here?

fogclimber1998113d ago

I am not certain he can recover this weekend. Perhaps the next race will be better for him. But it is possible that Lewis Hamilton will get get inside his head. Ferrari may have a larger issue between drivers than either Mercedes or McLaren.

jonny113d ago

Clearly they’re quick, have to think he can get into the points at least

walkercharlie828113d ago

Unfortunately this is why I struggle to see him winning a WDC. Too many errors like this

Nico Hulkenberg makes it to Q3 for the first time in 2026! 🎉 How many points can he score in the Barcelona GP?

seanfisher113d ago

Aim for 10th, if there’s any DNFs for the big teams they he’s in a great position to capitalise

♥ 1

kyle.archer113d ago

Nico Hulkenberg secured P5 in Barcelona last year for Sauber, so it would be naive to rule out the German taking a strong haul of points for Audi in 2026.

Lance Stroll out-qualifies Fernando Alonso for the first time in 43 Grands Prix! 😮 Will he still be in front of his teammate at the chequered flag?

fogclimber1998113d ago

Not likely unless both cars break and Lance's car lasts longer. AMR Honda is a poor excuse for a F1 team.

george.patten113d ago

I don’t think he cares. Such a poor season for Aston Martin. Wonder if Newey will turn it around. Starting to think not

jonny113d ago

About time 🤣 No chance he keeps it though, losing his place turn 1 🤞🏼

Fernando Alonso qualifies last for the Barcelona GP 🫠 Where can we expect to see him finish on Sunday?

ahambly23113d ago

Gutting for Fernando, but I can't see Aston Martin finishing anywhere other than at the very back. That's IF they finish at all...

♥ 1

seanfisher113d ago

Really disappointing for Albon too… had so much hope for Williams this season 😩

kyle.archer113d ago

Fernando Alonso is staring down the barrel at a horrific (likely) final visit to Barcelona, with anything in the top 15 a dream scenario after qualifying last

Barcelona FP3 ends with three different teams at the top of the charts! What will it take to keep the playing field this level all season long?

Photo credit: McLaren Racing, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Scuderia Ferrari HP Press Office

ahambly23113d ago

Mercedes not receiving any ADUO would certainly be a start...

walkercharlie828113d ago

It's not really level, Kimi didn't get a lap in. Hoping for a good merc battle to save the weekend!

kyle.archer113d ago

Realistically, the playing field was not that level during FP3 as traffic cost Andrea Kimi Antonelli his best chance to set a quick time. But it is encouraging that McLaren and Ferrari are mixing it among the top positions.

Valtteri Bottas brings out the first red flag of Barcelona FP3! 🫣 What are Cadillac missing with their car development this season?

Bottas reported on the radio, "I lost my brake pedal, the brakes, they are gone. Very lucky there."

actsysdoors3109d ago

Arewnt they using the standard F1 Brembo brakeslikeevery oneelse? didn'tthey do any testing pre-season ?

ahambly23113d ago

I think it's the level of development itself, this season has to be a big wake up call for the American team that they simply can't rely on out-sourcing parts for their car. It must be developed in-house in order to synergise it with the rest of the package.

marcus.chan113d ago

Another brake issue for Cadillac! They really need to have a closer look at them going forward!

Lando Norris pips George Russell by only 0.009s to top the FP2 timesheets in Barcelona 🏆 What’s possible for McLaren this weekend?

dewal518113d ago

Obviously this track suits the McLarens. Kimi would have to totally self destruct for Norris or anyone to win the Title

rebecca.braybrook114d ago

I think McLaren's biggest challenge this weekend is reliability! A podium is possible, but that Mercedes engine needs to play ball!

walkercharlie828114d ago

Going to come down to reliability as ever! Wouldn't be surprised to see him break down while in the lead

Liam Lawson stopped on track during Barcelona FP2 due to a suspected engine issue 🛑 Should we expect more problems now Red Bull cannot upgrade their ICE?

walkercharlie828114d ago

Reason number 1000 why the AUDO rule is ridiculous

♥ 1

ahambly23114d ago

RBPT currently being taught that having the best engine means nothing if it isn't reliable.

Do you agree with Martin Brundle that Paul Aron deserves a seat in Formula 1?

rebecca.braybrook114d ago

Aron has continued to demonstrate his potential to the F1 teams! Unfortunately for him, Colapinto seems to be solidifying his place at Alpine so it seems like maybe a jump to Audi would be the most likely alternative!

walkercharlie828114d ago

There's 22 seats and about 30 drivers pundits think should be in the sport. It's an elite club!

elizablackstock114d ago

I think the concept of 'deserving' a seat in F1 is soooo complicated. Unfortunately F1 is not a pure meritocracy, so teams do often prioritize something like sponsor funding over sheer skill. That said, I think it'd be great to see Aron get a shot in the big leagues!

It's George Russell on the top of the charts for FP1 ahead of the Barcelona GP! When Kimi Antonelli hits the track in FP2, where is he going to stack up?

rebecca.braybrook114d ago

That was exactly what Russell needed for confidence in the first session! He'll be hoping for an end to this bad luck on Sunday!

elizablackstock114d ago

Russell did exactly what he needed to do in FP1, but I think Antonelli absolutely has what it takes to swing back to the top of the boards in either FP2 or FP3. He's on fire!

ahambly23114d ago

Russell's confidence could take another blow if Antonelli does manage to go straight back to the top in FP2.

Ferrari have brought a major eight-part upgrade package to Barcelona, but where does the team most need to improve?

josh1114d ago

Straightline speed is the main issue, especially now the electrical energy doesn't give as much of a speed difference as it was before

ahambly23114d ago

Reducing some drag could help out their ailing PU, but then they don't want to strip too much off their superior aero package.

kyle.archer114d ago

All of the upgrades that Ferrari bring to the SF-26 will really only be a sticking plaster until they can deliver an upgraded engine thanks to ADUO, as sheer power is their clearest deficit to Mercedes

In your eyes, what was the best Spanish track to host F1? 🇪🇸

ahambly23114d ago

I really liked that Valencia circuit back on the old F1 games. Could just be looking back through rose-tinted glasses with Alonso's feat there.

kyle.archer115d ago

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya gets a rather unfair rap as, while the racing may not always be great, it is a challenging circuit

elizablackstock115d ago

I know it was dangerous, but I'll always have a soft spot for Montijuic Park. Absolutely gorgeous AND challenging!

What penalties, if any, would you have given Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton for their infamous 2016 crash in Barcelona?

ahambly23116d ago

I still deem it as a racing incident, the fact both drivers scored 0 points was punishment enough, as well as paying for damages too.

kyle.archer116d ago

Nico Rosberg certainly deserved some form of a penalty for his role in the German's crash with Lewis Hamilton in the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. But given the incident was between two teammates fighting for the title, it was not too surprising that the FIA's stewards did not get involved...

david.comerford116d ago

I think Rosberg deserved a three-place grid penalty for the next race. Looking at the footage, he moved across the track pretty erratically and put Hamilton on the grass

The Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix will not return until 2028. Will you miss the iconic circuit next year?

fogclimber199883d ago

Yes! I like it precisely because the teams and drivers know it so well. Every team arrives with good ideas about the setup they will need. That makes for some tough competition.

bmallingham84d ago

Having attended the 2026 Barcelona grand prix it is clear that a lot of upgrades are needed. The public transport is a joke, after 3pm the sun blazes down in one's face on the expensive covered grandstand. We had the feeling that once you have paid your vast sum of money, the FIA and the organizers don't give a toss. Will not return!

rebecca.braybrook115d ago

How Barcelona is still on the calendar compared to Imola and soon Zandvoort is beyond me! I think biennial rotation makes sense but even then at the cost of Spa feels a little ridiculous! I’d be quite happy to lose this race completely 🙈

One year on, what do you think of Max Verstappen getting a 10-second penalty for this incident with George Russell?

rebecca.braybrook115d ago

Personally I think Max should have had a stronger penalty for this. He intentionally crashed into another driver because he was angry!

ahambly23116d ago

Personally think any form of intentional crashing warrants a race ban, even if both cars were largely unscathed.

aaditya.krishnamurthy117d ago

It was a little soft in my opinion but i totally get not wanting to make this a pattern

Kimi Antonelli is going for his sixth straight win at the Barcelona GP. Who's your pick for the top step of the podium?

rebecca.braybrook115d ago

It seems slightly crazy to back Kimi for six consecutive wins but I really think he can do it again 💪

walkercharlie828117d ago

I think this is the week George bounces back. Wouldn't be surprised if Kimi maybe made a couple of decisions with the championship in mind and slotted in behind him

aaditya.krishnamurthy118d ago

On nothing but hopium, im backing Hamilton to be the first non-Mercedes driver to win a race this season in Barcelona
