I agree with Eric. Old Trafford is a part of Manchester & Englads history.Woven into the fabric of English culture. For a measely £17.5 million a year for what 10-20years ror a return of £175-350mill. it isnt worth it. An institution like Old Trafford is priceless Let the fans pay for it by offering a buy in.We can raise that.every utd fan $2 each for exampl

Im glad its taken a move forward but whilst we carry such a huge debt i remain in the dubious camp.lets not forget that there is still a club to run on top of current debt. There will need to be more land required and we still have no idea how they intend to raise £2 billion (between 3 and 4 if you believe construction experts.i say dont hold your breath

What? Didn't you hear news? They paid off the debt just recently — that's why we have such a massive budget this summer of over £300 mil.

I dont think you have heard the news. The owners secured a new loan to pay off the old loan and addedan additional £125 million to it. Went from £425 million to £550 mill & interest will now be £10 mill more p/year. Then there is transfer debt £350 mill £209 mill due in next 10 months plus amount owed on line of credit. Where did you get £300 mill from?

Man Utd have FINALLY acquired the land to build the new stadium - What is your reaction?

D

Avram Glazer says Manchester United not reliant on sporting success for commercial power. Get the team winning first idiot then get the stadium

R

rwillighan135d ago

Let's face it, Old Trafford is the heart of Manchester United we do not need to leave her behind. There will be no heart, no soul and definitely no history when we move. GGMU

D

dantowen81951136d ago

People will criticise Ineos but let’s not forget we’re only in this position because the Glazer’s neglected the stadium for so long

D

dantowen81951136d ago

It would probably cost more to renovate old Trafford than to build a new one!

How come they can build brand new stadiums in the middle East in a couple of years, that look spectacular too...but here in blighty it'll take 9 !! 🤦🙄

D

dancoombs137d ago

That’s England for you, any major infrastructure project gets slowed down to a standstill with so much planning and paperwork it is ridiculous

United now plan for the new stadium to be ready for 2035 - What do you think about this?

T

thehayneses119d ago

It will generate cash like no other facility in the world of football. Retail/entertainment 7 days a week. United will also get developers profits on around 6-8000 flats. They need to get cracking before sunny Jim pegs out!

K

knightinwhitesatin129d ago

Shorten the construction timeliness sounds a bit like cutting corners something we don't need for the money we're supposedly shelling out for the stadium but cutting out that circus tent style canopy is the first thing they can do

G

gdollop132d ago

I don't think we should leave old Trafford at all. This is an unnecessary vanity project for the owners. The supporters will suffer as prices will go up. Old Trafford is the spiritual home of Manchester United and is plenty big enough.

Yeah I think this is quite a popular belief among the fanbase... would be a real shame to demolish Old Trafford

Should United scale back their ambitions for their new stadium?

100k seats, huge canopy and three towers would come at eye-watering cost for club already £1bn in debt

No

F

frankedrybicki120d ago

Unless the Glaziers put their hands in their pocket, a new stadium is a none starter given the high debt levei the p

We need to be playing/watching in the biggest & best stadium in PL. As someone born between the two Old Traffords & spending so many hours in & around both, I hope the various planners/investors stick to their promises that this will be a whole area renovation to be proud of

Should Manchester United sell the naming rights to their new stadium?

Manchester United could earn as much as £17.5m per year if they sell the naming rights of their 100,000-seater stadium...

J

jjflash422136d ago

I think it's the best way,we need to generate incoming cash.It will always be old Trafford and Manchester utds home,I bet if and when it's finished, that £17.5 Mill naming rights will be quite a bit higher.

W

willysauti5136d ago

For financial reasons I would say yes but OT should be part of the name. for example OT-INEOS STADIUM

Ask again when ground is broke and the debt starts going up as a result.

Just get it done. Otherwise United will stagnate longer than necessary

With who's money ?

Should United prioritise building a new stadium or winning on the pitch now?

B

bluemancunian280d ago

I predict a milestone for this project. By about August/September, they will announce that they haven't got the money and have failed to mug the government to pay for it. And scruffy Jim will leave

B

barryroberts72131d ago

"mug the government to pay for it" Utd will pay for the stadium they have already managed to get the last bit of land so either Ineos, Ratcliffe + sponsors will end up paying. The government/council they pay for the roads, pavements, traffic lights in the surrounding areas and it will generate millions coming into Manchester.

stephenjholmes1137d ago

The reality is that United need the Glazers gone. City would still be in the shadow of United if we hadn't been saddled with Glazers debt. The time will come when we're back on top of the pile.

B

barryroberts72212d ago

Ok, we don't have a Sheep to get money from, but wouldn't it be ironic if eventually the decision on your cheating ways sent you right down the leagues and all your players jumped the sinking ship? Whatever happens we still had the best manager the PL ever had, even Pep has had enough.

None of us want to admit it but atm we are a project God Brighton has 20x better football department ie sports science, data analytics department, scouting network, data driven recruitment database, better global knowledge, than us atm id rather this ineos experiment fails and pray sheikh jassim comes bk in as his plan for us had he been successful was

United are so far behind with modernization, time to embrace and accept change to put the club back where it belongs!

Too long, too slow, too expensive.

Man Utd's new stadium plans, what we know right now

B

barryroberts72238d ago

The 'Old Trafford' could stay but downsized in seating for the womens team, i'm sure they would love to play their home games there all the time. If the rumours are true aren't we going to save £200m on getting rid of the tent?

F

frankedrybicki239d ago

The club is already in financial difficulty with the loan interest. The Glaziers should put the 1 billion dollars they got from INEOUS against the Stadium cost

M

mondecaleb03281d ago

I think the best thing to do is rebuild but before we rebuild let’s do enough transfers of getting young players that can play for 5years plus let’s get our squad depth, we can now build and take away ownership from glazers because they’re not good for business at all, Get extra defenders give Maguire 2 years extra and sign 2 box to box midfielders
