Lisandro Martinez has blasted the club's lack of investment - Speaking after the loss to Atletico
What do you think of his comments? These are going to cause a MAJOR stir...

Player Ratings vs Atletico Madrid - Who stood out for your good or bad?
What lessons did you learn about our players?

patrockslowkey23d ago
I actually thought our midfield showed a bit more spark as the whole team did compared to the Spurs game. Still a way to go though.
jameslloyd14.jl24d ago
Bruno struggling playing more frequently than one meaningless game a week already then
sam.dhaliwal23d ago
From mid Jan our season will end; out of Europe (at least we'll have experienced ucl) for several more seasons (may well be decade(s)). Owners aren't interested in football/trophies This is evident on the pitch.
jonny24d ago
It has nothing to do with fixture congestion, he’s been poor since week one against Hull
dancoombs24d ago
I learned Zirkzee is allergic to taking a shot
barryroberts7223d ago
The whole flipping team is, as the boss once said about Arsenal many moons ago, tippy tappy football with flicks and tricks. Just get around that penalty area and shoot, if it goes in great, everyone will say a fantastic goal but miss, oh your in the naughty corner but at least you tried which is what counts.
sam.dhaliwal23d ago
This is every Man Utd player. They advised not to shoot. Pass sideways or back. Goals are beyond us so why bother?! Sesko is not prem lge quality.
freddie24d ago
He’s allergic to playing football*
Man Utd have lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid - Let us know your INSTANT REACTION
How does this performance make you feel ahead of the trip to Leeds this weekend?

davecarey2823d ago
We appear to have players who be ball watch and don't look around for dangers. Yoro's dismissal was not a sending off.
febced123d ago
Looking at the ratings, I wonder how well. AM. actually played. However, the low ratings indicate that we expect so much more of this squad [team] which is on a steady decline. What a shockingly poor performance.
terrygreenwood423d ago
Good on you Martinez for speaking out! Ineos have no idea how to run the football side of a club, full stop!!
Red card: Leny Yoro sent off

ianratcliffe196922d ago
It was a joke decision to send Leny off, it wasn't even a yellow card. The ref was dire
seanfisher24d ago
What a joke… it’s so easy to say we’ve been unlucky this season as it does patch over a lot of issues. But boy, have we been unlucky.
dancoombs24d ago
From this moment, it was all over
stephenjholmes124d ago
It would never of happened if Baleba was still on the field!
No changes for second half. What should Carrick’s first substitution be?
barryroberts7223d ago
Get the coach back home instead of the plane. Just answering your question about Carricks first substitution.
stephenjholmes124d ago
Why take off Baleba?
dancoombs24d ago
I can only assume there are fitness concerns about him playing the full 90 yet
stephenjholmes124d ago
If Tilemans stays on the pitch there is no hope for us
dancoombs24d ago
I think there will be a change soon
J. Cardoso scores for Atletico Madrid 2-0 43'
dancoombs24d ago
VAR check 👀which way will it go
dancoombs24d ago
In our favour for once
Two decent chances, Mbeumo should have scored and Rashford too. Is a goal coming?
mohan1831024d ago
Incase if we would have been fortunate to get early goal, we would have already conceded the advantage by playing safe. So trying to be optimistic in other way😅
adnan.riaz24d ago
Wish it was... Shame we don't have Sesko on. You know, a natural striker.
freddie24d ago
Mbuemo has to score that. Simple as that!
adnan.riaz24d ago

dancoombs24d ago
And the other one just now too
P. Barrios scores for Atletico Madrid 1-0 1'
callum_boyle24d ago
Literally the worst thing you could do against Atleti. Prepare for a night of Simeone suffocation
dancoombs24d ago
We’ve done OK since but a second goal will kill it
stephenjholmes124d ago
I am seeing nothing different to every other s**te performance so far!
freddie24d ago
Different country, same old United
dale.odonnell24d ago
Nightmare. 😭
We're underway at Riyadh Air Metropolitano
adnan.riaz24d ago
Well, what a start it was... for all the wrong reasons!
stephenjholmes124d ago
I expected nothing else. I hate talking negatively about my team, but reality gives me no other option!😭
Wayne Rooney says Bruno Fernandes looks 'fed up'
adnan.riaz24d ago
Oh, boy, it is GOING to be a long season, isn't it?
dale.odonnell24d ago
No good being fed up in October. An experienced professional like Bruno Fernandes knows that.
adnan.riaz24d ago
Classic Bruno is back. Haha. And it's only October.
Atletico Madrid's line-up is in too...
adnan.riaz24d ago
Well, it looks like Simeone picked well, didn't he? Jesus.
dale.odonnell24d ago

dale.odonnell24d ago
Need to try keep a few of those lads quiet, including Alvarez.
dancoombs24d ago
Alvarez yet to score this season. You know what happens next
Manchester United starting XI vs Atletico CONFIRMED: Let us know your reaction...
adnan.riaz24d ago
Going well so far with this line-up, isn't it?!

thetruthpersonified24d ago
Despite all the regrettable managers we have had, this is the first CL match I can recall where the excitement is missing. Of course hope we win, but need some entertainment, some spark - something to make watching United more than loyalty alone...
thetruthpersonified24d ago
I would suggest trying to limit the damage. Worryingly - Maguire dropped when Martinez has been abysmal this season. Plus Heaven and Martinez are both better as LCB. Nice to see DL make the bench..
dale.odonnell24d ago
I think we needed a change at CB and got one tonight. Hope it works, along with the welcome shake up in midfield. It’s good to see Carrick willing to try new things as I feared he was stuck in a daze after the start to the season we’ve had.
dancoombs24d ago
Chance for Martinez to put himself in the shop window and land a move to Atletico…
Manchester United Predicted XI vs Atletico Madrid: What would you change?
amalujude0624d ago
Would like to see a Mainoo/ Baleba combo in the middle.
knightinwhitesatin24d ago
Here we go again an early goal and 1-0 down
mdbrislen24d ago
I would have liked to have seen Rashford come on for Cunha at about 60 minutes instead of waiting until extra time. Bring Lacey on at 60-75 minutes for Amad. Plan ahead, tell players to give it their all for 60 minutes, don't save it up for 90. With 5 subs, it's possible.
dancoombs24d ago
Agree, chucking Rashford on in stoppage time just felt like a desperate move at that point. And it was
stephenjholmes124d ago
I was just writing about the issues, and then immediately after posting you had posted this. You have put exactly what I (and I'm sure thousands of others) am thinking. He needs to take chances. We would prefer he tries and fails rather than do nothing and guarantee failure.
Michael Carrick confirms Bruno Fernandes has been shaking off an injury issue, and is confident he is over the worst of it...
seadvegar24d ago
dale.odonnell25d ago
This explains a bit... 👀
eoin25d ago
For Carricks sake, he should start Bruno. Cant afford another bad performance
dancoombs25d ago
The counter argument is Bruno has been poor lately and could benefit from a rest ahead of Leeds Mount scored on his only start this season v Brighton
Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw have not traveled to Madrid due to new injury issues - How should United replace them?
dale.odonnell25d ago
Tielemans and Baleba in the middle, with Dalot and Mazraoui (if fit) in the full-back positions. Yoro could play at right back too.
thetruthpersonified24d ago
Or - drop Tielemans and give Santos a chance..
dancoombs25d ago
We have got a major problem at full-back. I expect the solution will be Dalot at LB and Yoro at RB
How are you feeling ahead of Manchester United's visit to Atletico Madrid
ericbkchirwa24d ago
🔥🔥🔥
cj81169524d ago
Win for man utd for life
dale.odonnell25d ago
Not optimistic anyway. I'd take a draw.

davecarey2817d ago
I've said it once there are a lot of people responsible for united and yes we can keep sacking managers and getting new ones, but will that help?
febced122d ago
You cannot have a tycoon signing the 4th best players, when he [Ratcliffe] knows zilts about soccer. He's protecting his investment, damaging this club. Lucha's utterance highlighted the situation in this club, and Man U supporters hate the truth.
ebongstephen522d ago
I stand with him on that, he is right for how long are they going to keep sacking managers for their poor investments. You demand much from a manager when you invest much. Look at Man city, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool
dancoombs22d ago
Exactly 💯we can’t keep on sacking managers the players are sick of it too
adnan.riaz22d ago
He was well within his right to say what he did. How anyone can disagree with him baffles me!
vijayrajh5323d ago
DChcsOhraita This guy Martinez performance on the field is awful especially against 10 men Tottenham and he has no business to talk such nonsense. Good teams are built by focussing on fundamentals, proper coaching and training which results in high intensity, creativity and attacking, fluid football on the field. Ineffective Coach is the primary reason.
adnan.riaz22d ago
He's made a valid point about the lack of investment, which, in turn, has led to us not having enough quality in certain positions?
deansexton4623d ago
I 150% agree with Martinez we have been lied to from day 1 about what he wants to bring to the club and all he has brought in is a director that couldn't direct traffic and a lot of mediocre players, and all the fans won't say anything
adnan.riaz22d ago
Spot on. Big up to Martinez for saying it as it is!
thesaurus0223d ago
ManU continues its downward spiral because we refuse to buy the best players. All we get are substandard rejects from other clubs. Ashworth and Wilcox say they refuse to overpay for players! But the cost we have to pay for these elite players is the GOING RATE! If we don't pay these prices we continue to field substandard teams full of poor players. Carrick
adnan.riaz22d ago
Wilcox is as bad as Ashworth in my eyes.
mazambanivs23d ago
Martinez. The Club owners are not responsible for losses to teams with less talent. If you were winning those, but losing to better talented teams, I would agree with you 💯
mazambanivs23d ago
A draw with a team at the bottom of the Premiership League Table has nothing to do with further investment. What would we have expected with an even better team, Athletico?
dancoombs23d ago
Funnily enough, with better investment, Martinez might have been on the bench vs Spurs
phillo70.jt23d ago
Lisandro Was 110% Correct. Hopefully that will put a Rocket Up the team, and They Show Up Against Leeds. How on Earth is Dalot getting Game Time???. He gets a Nose Bleed when he gets to the Edge of the Box. He WON'T take the defenders on. He passes back, or EVEN WORSE, passes back to the Keeper, When All the Players ARE WAITING IN THE BOX. A DISGRACE.
dancoombs23d ago
We are stuck with Dalot atm because Mazraoui is injured 🤕
terrygreenwood423d ago
VAH EW Od taHW He was 100% right, no question! The overall strategy of Ineos will break the club is something is not done and soon. What do they know about building a team to win things? Nothing, especially the main culprit Jason Wilcox! How can you compete with the best, without recruiting the best? Good old Jason waits to buy their cast off's
rackaraisaac723d ago
Truth pains but it helps when analyse, so Martinez was right to say the board but also the head coach trying players in any position make it hard for them to copy up.
ianratcliffe196923d ago
Hes spot on, the board have not backed Carra, but the players need to take responsibility, they are terrible. No formation, no tactics, no press, we have regressed under Carra
davidmort194723d ago
Martinez is showing professional pride and passion, unlike some other players who are no more than mercenaries. He has probably destroyed his chances of a new contract at Old Trafford but he has shown commitment.
geldroper22d ago
He should put the finger at himself before being a douche. Half the goals against Man U have been his fault and he should be happy to still be playing and not be a late sub. After the worldcup he had np intention to stay in England so sell him as soon as posible
derekf23d ago
Wilcox up
dancoombs23d ago
I hope Carrick keeps him in the team v Leeds, it would send them wrong message to leave him out and show the board are pulling the strings
leedavidhawk6823d ago
Absolutely 100 per cent Wilcox has no right being sporting director
julianfcooke23d ago
Thank you Lisandro you spoke truth not gossip. You need proper tools when doing a job.
aadhias23d ago
I am just curious. What tool do United need? I know our defenders or strikers are not the most prolific ones. But it's hard to comprehend how with the current team, which more or less has the same players for years now, we can't even play a consistent football. Even in most matches, we don't seem capable of doing basic defending work.
deansexton4623d ago
you know Martinez will be sold now, even though it was TRUE
barryroberts7223d ago
Martinez was gone anyway either in January if we get a replacement or in the Summer, his contract is up next year so if we want any money for him then, he has to be sold in either January or the Summer window.
azahammout23d ago
If players were not to blame and played like if they care about the club, I'll support him 100%. But seeing them on the pitch not running with intensity and fighting spirit I cannot support him on that matter! I am always behind the players 100% but their level of commitment on the pitch was inconsistent
azahammout23d ago
I feel like it is blaming someone else without looking at your own responsibilities. If the players were faultless, I would be supportive. But just whinning won't bring anygood especially now. How the board will react now? Apologise to the players? Bring another players? No and no. Just create tension, put pressure on the club, make useless drama. Need calm
ebongstephen523d ago
Truth is always bitter
sam.dhaliwal23d ago
Defence will cist us the season.
dale.odonnell23d ago
There are several ways to look at this. 1) he's right in what he says 2) it's easy to speak out when you're likely to leave next summer - with contract expiring 3) it explains why Bruno has looked p***ed off and out of sorts all season/break down in trust with board over false promises 4) it doesn't excuse the fact Martinez hasn't been performing well. ETC
dancoombs23d ago
I think that’s a great point about Bruno. I can imagine the conversations going on behind the scenes among the players
niko23d ago
Licha is speaking the minds of the players and the fans. The Glazers/Ratcliffe/Ineos Conundrum is pathetic. They have no record of success in football and if they cannot invest in United by supplying Carrick with the mateials he needs to succeed, they should sell their shares and leave. United need at least 2 new strong center backs and 2 new strong strikers
epi2media23d ago
Is that why he is not running enough in games? Is that why Martinez is costing United goals against Ipswich, Fulham, Tottenham? At least do your job first, then point the finger at someone else. Utd is the worst team in the top two Divisions at the moment in terms of just playing basic football!
dancoombs23d ago
He is certainly going to be under intense scrutiny now. Even more so than ever
davecarey2823d ago
OemalB Well he is spot on with his comments, they were so hung up on replacing the midfield they should have looked at the whole team. As for his comments on Radcliffe he seems to have been obsessed with rebuilding the stadium but it's the team that matters. All this when the glaziers have been taking more money out of United each year.
tolros7823d ago
I know you guys love your club, but the real fact is he's saying the truth and I feel that, that's what other players feels too. He has the right to speak his mind and sometimes the truth is bitter to hear.
dancoombs23d ago
I don’t mind it when a player speaks like this. It shows he cares. It could even spark a reaction
patrockslowkey23d ago
He wasn't the worst defender in that game.
patrockslowkey23d ago
Might wake them up a bit. I agree with him
freddie23d ago
He was absolutely right to speak out, but he’s one of the ones not good enough…
chiderachristopher05623d ago
His right because whatever that's happening to us (United ❤️) is from the directors and owner's
geldroper22d ago
mARTINEZ HIMSELF IS PART OF THE BIG PROBLEM. hE IS PLAYING TERRIBLE AND COSTED US A LOT OF GOALS
kierandoody23d ago
It’s actually refreshing to hear a player come out and speak like this but there’s a time and a place and it isn’t after a performance like that. He makes valid points but it comes across as deflection.
lawalqazeembabatunde23d ago
That's the best way to name the problems.
meggabaits23d ago
It’s right they have to back the coach
dancoombs23d ago
The players are behind Carrick for now but I think they expect he will be fired, which is why Martinez has done this
pranav.shahaney23d ago
Interesting to see Martinez and also Amad on Snapchat going after the ones above the manager. Player power in a dressing room with the manager involved against the board is an interesting dynamic and I’m really keen on seeing how it all pans out
barryhhd23d ago
There has been one constant in all these years, Fernandes, he's a luxury player, I'm not doubting his talent but we can't carry passengers and to often in games that's what he is, lauded for his assists last season, but let's be real it's only because Casemiro's head was on the end of them !!
amirmir23d ago
It's not Martinez's job to critcise the sporting director, even if he is right, just like it's not the sporting director's job to come out and say Martinez has been shit this season. You don't need ambition in the transfer window to be able to defend a simple cross against Dominic Solanke.
epi2media23d ago
Spot on!!! Just do what you are being paid to do first, then.....
jjflash42223d ago
Players, the lack of motivation,no creativity,no intent,no over my dead body attitude.I think Carrick is what he is but is not gd enough for this club as manager.Hes too limited, and these players turn the tap on sometimes but most of the time, they'll bury managers.Wilcox is so poor too but martinez and Co,you try to play to 7/10 once in a while.Thats your job
jjflash42223d ago
Agree with you+ Stephen, none of these players+management team are upto scratch this season, the performances are down to players and management being amateurish, poorly coached,so unfit,no resilience,no accountability on the pitch, when did martinez last play well for us.We're being cut to pieces by all the oppos,on the pitch stuff is all down to management+
ericisgod6623d ago
We are, and have been for some time, dictated to by debt. A debt that is none of Utds making. Martinez is right because even though they cant compete with big money signings they could have been more aggresive in pursuit of others. I dont want to see Utd go backwards with the debt but i do think they have to take a punt if they want someone
febced124d ago
His comments are factual, although probably uttered on the wrong stage. This club is in crisis, and Licha acknowledges that. Somebody had to say it. Wazza should admit that the players were disrespectful through their on-field performance.
geldroper22d ago
MAYBE TRUE BUT SOMEONE WHO HAS COSTED US A LOT OF GOALS SHOULD BE QUIT AND BLAME HIMSELF UNLESS HE IS DOING IT ALL ON PURPOSE TO BE SOLD. aT THE MOMENT HE IS A CANCER
dancoombs24d ago
I think Rooney should have shown a little leniency, given that he once threatened to leave the club over a lack of investment himself
barryroberts7224d ago
I don't like Martinez so i don't support him but i do agree with what he says there has been a lack of investment. Ineos have bought younger players but there is a lack of mature players, what happens when Bruno and Maguire leave? those two are real leaders of the team, a voice in the dressing room.
jonny24d ago
“I expected more from the technical director” Wilcox has to go, he’s let down ETH, Amorim and now Carrick and all our senior players who were begging for investment
freddie23d ago
Is it him tho or the owners not allowing him to spend the money?
stephenjholmes124d ago
And everyone bigs him up like some kind of messiah. Shop in pound poundland and get staff from poundland!
stephenjholmes124d ago
Always easy to blame others.
jonny24d ago
Easy when the blame lies at their feet. United’s biggest problem is not Carrick or the players, it’s Wilcox, Berrada, Ratcliffe and the Glazers
jonny24d ago
Good on Lisandro. Feels a bit like he wants out and knows he’ll achieve it with this given what happened to Amorim and the timing coming after a decent performance. But it still needed to be said, guarantee he isn’t alone in feeling like this when you see how unhappy Bruno has been all season. Leadership group are making it clear. They need to stand together
markmarston24d ago
Tell you what…. The Netflix documentary is gonna be entertaining at least 🤣
dancoombs24d ago
I suspect Martinez’s comments won’t make the cut for that particular Ineos vanity project
jameslloyd14.jl24d ago
Blaming the technical director after some of the performances he’s been putting up lately… the players have to take responsibility
granitegraham23d ago
Yes , the players need to perform, but we all know that Wilcox and Co are failing the club, the manager , the players and the fans. What was said needed to be said, Amorim said it ,fired , so if Carrick said it he'd be fired , So Martinez has said it ,presumably any hope of a new contract now gone.
jonny24d ago
Technical director failed to recruit well, has made poor managerial decisions 3 years on the bounce, failed properly back each manager. The players are who they are, United’s problems have always been above and it’s great to see it called out
markmarston24d ago
Wow. That’s about as scathing as you can expect from an employee. This says a lot. The players know the club is rotten to the core and in desperate need of a proper overhaul… not just a lick of paint. INEOS have BIG questions to answer.
ericisgod6624d ago
E1 was disappointed with Utd's recruitment drive and whilst i understand the need to stay within budget restraints Utd could have been a little more competitive. Anderson was beyond Utd but there were others Utd should have been in for. The Glazer debt is a handicap and as for INEOS they are in dire str8s atm so we cant rely on them
jonny24d ago
Ineos run a dictatorship, Martinez will be sold at first time of asking for this, similar to Amorim getting the sack for calling them out
dancoombs24d ago
I respect him for speaking out. Not sure about the timing, but at least he cares enough to rip into the board
markmarston24d ago
Probably knows Carrick might be close to getting the boot so he’s trying to take the pressure of him
