Which golf rule would you change if you had the chance?

pedersenj592d ago

Prints in bunkers made from all kind of animals should be allowed to lay up the ball

rtedsn222d ago

A divot in the fairway whether sand filled or not, is ground under repair. You did not create it, it is a harsh penalty for hitting your ball in the fairway.

One-stroke penalty if your ball ends up in a bunker which is filled with water is a joke (unless it's labelled as GUR of course)

Should AimPoint be banned?

jamesshearman23265d ago

I wouldn't ban it but I don't like it personally

peter.lynch266d ago

Yep I agree with Jordan, no problems here!

jordan.harris268d ago

I don't get the uproar tbh. As long as players are respecting their partners' lines, no issue for me

Give us your most controversial opinion on a famous golf course

Do you think Augusta National or St Andrews are overrated? Are you secretly a fan of the venues LIV visit?

philmurphy194719d ago

St Andrews is just about the history of golf

jamesshearman23265d ago

The Postage Stamp at Royal Troon looks great but it's probably too small a landing spot, even for the best players

peter.lynch291d ago

Yeah St Andrews being too easy is a common theme it seems... only when the weather is bad is it a test, which is quite often to be fair! Horrendous wind and rain both times I've visited

The out of bounds rule in golf needs changing! Do you agree? Give us your thoughts in the comments below

antony.martin291d ago

Utterly unfair in every way. Being penalised with both stroke and distance is far too harsh

jordan.harris291d ago

Completely agree with this! Like John says, if nothing else, get rid of it for the pace of play

john.verrall291d ago

Honestly, I think it's one of the worst rules in golf. It's so destructive for amateurs too and slows the game down. It's much easier for pros who have thousands of fans spotting their ball!

How many holes do you think is the perfect number for a round of golf?

philmurphy194719d ago

If 18 holes is to much there are plenty of good 9 holes to visit

lee.connor295d ago

18 is fine for the pros but I get pretty bored/annoyed by 18 given I'm a high handicap. 12 is about right for me before I'm ready for a pint!

jordan.harris295d ago

I agree with John, why limit it to 18?

What is the one golf rule you would change if you had the opportunity?

mcbrim2025287d ago

I believe that if you hit a ball into the fairway you should be able to place it if sitting in a divot. You shouldn't be penalized for a good shot.

lee.connor298d ago

Slow play. Hand out 2 shot penalties there and then, would stamp it out. Monetary penalties mean nothing to most players.

antony.martin298d ago

Stroke and distance penalty when you hit your ball out of bounds. It's a ridiculously harsh punishment. The penalty should be stroke OR distance, not both

Does the rule on mud balls if you hit the fairway need changing?

philmurphy194719d ago

Just replace your divots then no problem

peter.lynch298d ago

Play it as it lies for sure!

mdheaven298d ago

If you hit the fairway you have done what you're supposed to do, and you should be allowed to clean the ball. If someone else has hit the fairway and has a clean ball, and your ball is covered in grass or dirt, why should you be disadvantaged?

Relief in a divot. Absolutely. I think it’s ground under repair personally. Nothing over 4 hrs. Pffffft Please

lsouthard24298d ago

so you don’t think a player of their caliber can’t hit it out of a divot…. come on man. I think we’re the ball stops, that is where you play it from, divot, cart path, tree stump. the only relief should be if the ball is on a metal yardage marker.

How long should an 18 hole round of golf take?

antony.martin283d ago

Why should the best players in the world take longer than 4 hours in three-balls? When they play in two-balls they shouldn't take longer than 3.5 hours

lsouthard24298d ago

as long as it takes for you to play the round, it’s not a race, it’s a chess match men.

jamesshearman23302d ago

Should never take more than 4 hours. Think about your next shot before you get to the ball!

Patrick Reed has his say on the free drop from fairway divots debate

lsouthard24298d ago

no, play it out of the divot. these are the best players in the world, your telling me they can’t hit it out of a divot! if you allow them to move it, let them tee it up. I mean what’s the difference!

john.verrall310d ago

That's a great idea!

bsc121953311d ago

One rule change....with all the new wedges and hybrids, 15 clubs.

Do you think golfers should receive a free drop from divots in the fairway?

winedupgolfer310d ago

what is a divot? Rule #1...play the ball as it lies

lee.connor310d ago

Not for me...I like the element of chance, brings a bit more jeopardy to proceedings. Plus, I like to see the golfers spit their dummies out.

john.verrall310d ago

Absolutely they should. There is simply no way any golfer should be punished for hitting the ball in the right place!
