Fernando Alonso is being linked with a shock return to Alpine 😳 Would you like to see a reunion in 2027?

rebecca.braybrook113d ago

Alonso has nothing to lose with one final team swap! Alpine are worlds away from Aston Martin and would probably make for a far happier retirement!

kyle.archer114d ago

A return to Enstone could offer Fernando Alonso a romantic finale to his Formula 1 career after winning his two F1 titles with Renault in 2005 and 2026. But it would be a short-term view by Alpine to bring Alonso back to Enstone in 2027 at Franco Colapinto's expense.

ahambly23114d ago

One last dance at the team he won his world titles at would certainly be a fitting end to Alonso's career.

How big of a missed opportunity is this for Alpine?

Christian Horner has received a blow to his chances of returning to the F1 paddock

czechfog183615d ago

So in September, we learn more and it is a loss for Horner and for the Alpine team for the Otro shares to be purchased by some random American venture capitalist. I hope he is smart enough to keep his mouth shut after handing over his money.

czechfog183649d ago

Is there any reason for them to accept Christian Horner? They need someone to change the team structure. But Otro is asking too much according to Mercedes. If Briatore refuses to go after other top personnel, they will stagnate.

ahambly23128d ago

I would have thought a midfield team like Alpine would snatch at the opportunity to add Horner to their staff. They obviously have their reasons, though.

Does Franco Colapinto have an unfair reputation in Formula 1?

Colapinto has the longest streak of races without a DNF on the 2026 grid

sarngthekingkrishnan66d ago

I think the seat being lost is only happening if Colapinto starts performing as he was in 2025. But I think that confidence in the cars has been restored for him. He looks on pace most of the time, so I believe he can keep the seat with no issues.

vatsal127d ago

He seems more comfortable in the car. Sometimes a switch flicks and you fly. Too soon to say he definitely has, but early signs look good

aaditya.krishnamurthy129d ago

I think it's still too soon to turn the verdict on him around. He's had two strong races, let's not try to change the narrative surrounding Colapinto.

What do you think of this Gucci/Alpine concept livery? 🎨

Alpine have confirmed a title sponsorship deal with the fashion brand for 2027

czechfog183649d ago

It certainly could be worse. I need to see an actual race car in the sun at a track to decide if I like it.

brook010130d ago

So nice! A good start appealing to wider audiences as well, can’t wait to see what they do with the brand 🤩

freddie130d ago

I actually really like it, although without a matching background and on track, I might change my mind! 😅

Mercedes reportedly want to buy a 24% stake in Alpine, but should this be allowed?

fogclimber1998137d ago

I do not see a 24% stake as a problem.

Let's make it really fair and say each team must have their own engine as well instead of many teams sharing the same engine

david.comerford145d ago

No, and Red Bull/Racing Bulls shouldn't be either

Does Franco Colapinto deserve to keep his F1 seat for 2027?

czechfog183649d ago

I think he is learning at a reasonable pace and is more competitive than I thought he would be. He is looking better than Doohan. He also brings in serious sponsorship money from Mercado Libre.

kevinhowarth196975d ago

At the beginning of the year I honestly thought he wouldn't last to the summer break, but I am so glad i am wrong,he's getting better as he learns also he's good for f1

wilsonjimwilson147d ago

I can understand why they would have gotten rid of him after last year, but they didn't and now he's doing a good job this year.

Alpine release statement on online abuse...

But will fans continue to blame the team given Briatore’s controversial past?

rebecca.braybrook184d ago

I can understand why some fans have expressed frustration about Colapinto's performance and I think it's easy to blame Alpine for sabotage given Briatore's past, but really this is his first full season in F1 and I think they need to cut Alpine some slack.

Crashgate will always hang over Flavio Briatore, and rightly so, but the accusations that Alpine have faced about favouring Pierre Gasly are inane.

Who is the best person to run Alpine in Formula 1: Christian Horner, Toto Wolff or Flavio Briatore?

gillycaroleillman16d ago

Toto Wolf

czechfog183649d ago

Horner wants to be a CEO with a financial stake in the team. He needs financial backing to make his dream come true, but he would likely help Alpine turn a corner. More so than Briatore.

martin.filipovic0179d ago

Horner. Having Wolff and Horner in the opposing garages was always good for F1.

Alpine will hope to end their droughts in F1 now they have a Mercedes engine, but will they?

czechfog1836241d ago

Not likely. they have to catch up to at least five other teams.

ben.evans242d ago

Gasly could maybe fluke a win or a pole position, but they should be a step behind Mercedes and McLaren and maybe some non-Mercedes-powered teams too

Is Flavio Briatore's target for Alpine in 2026 realistic or too ambitious?

czechfog183649d ago

Not realistic. They lack aero development.

shay.rogers252d ago

I think it's possible, but every race feels a bit optimistic

Alpine's new era in F1 with Mercedes engines begins here. Rate their 2026 livery out of 10!

rebecca.braybrook254d ago

Four - it's just not exciting enough for me and is far too similar to what we've seen before! I think this is my least favourite livery so far!

david.comerford254d ago

Six. The livery itself is okay, but don't think I could tell it apart from last year

Which F1 team should Jack Doohan try to make his return with?

fogclimber1998137d ago

I like Jack Doohan, but I do not see him in F1. He would be very fortunate to land a deal with a WEC or an IMSA team.

♥ 2

czechfog1836263d ago

Haas would make sense if Kondo would sign him for SF. But since that seems to be gone, I think Doohan is out of F1.

ben.evans265d ago

He shouldn't, it's time for Jack to try and build his racing career elsewhere
