Anyone got any thoughts on the new Taylor Swift songs? I personally think they're diabolical 😂 https://youtu.be/jfVVXYTZykw?si=_PceaqM9fIjSMux0

They’re definitely not my favourite of her songs! Although Life of a Showgirl has never really been my cup of tea. They’re okay to listen to (and have been regular earworms since I heard them) but much like the rest of the album, I can’t see myself going out of the way to listen to it!

I really quite like Taylor Swift and don’t get the hate she gets but this new stuff is not really for me. But I do think she’s very good in general.

I know I’m not exactly her target audience - but I’ve always found Taylor Swift’s music a little underwhelming

U2 turn 50 today and are celebrating with some events in their hometown of Dublin and a new album. How do Bono and the lads stack up among the all-time greats?

chillout6d ago

I have tremendous respect for what Taylor Swift has achieved, but I think she is at a bit of a crossroads. Diehard fans will clearly love this new stuff, but critical response is mixed to negative - the bonus material is of little consequence, and a lot of the themes overall are just covering old ground. Probably needs to regroup and rethink.

Still annoyed at them for installing that album in everyone’s phone a few years ago 😂

Clearly a good band to have such longevity but I just cannot stand them or the music they make, for some reason. Just not my cup of tea at all.

Nothing so far… not looking promising

On the back of @leeclarke0508 trip to see Westlife. What’s the best gig you have ever attended? I’ll kick it off with seeing David Byrne earlier this year - a real bucket list experience 🛋️

donaghcorby19979d ago

Ahhhh there have been some good ones. Green Day and The Smashing Pumpkins in Philadelphia 2023 was a worldie and John Mayer in Dublin 2024. I also went to The 1975’s famous 2022 gig at MSG that was recorded. A few crackers

One that stands out for me is seeing Macklemore at Deaf Institute in Manchester. It was just before he released Thrift Shop, so it was a tiny venue. I don’t think anyone there expected he’d explode just after, but he was brilliant. He did a signing afterwards and randomly all I had was a dollar in my pocket, so he signed that

Not my story, but my brother remarkably got tickets to a last minute secret last minute Prince concert in 2014. Love the idea of just getting last minute tickets in a small venue for a superstar.

I went to see Westlife in Dublin last night as a surprise for the wife. They were great but it got me thinking, where do they rank when it comes to Irish success stories in the music industry?

donaghcorby19979d ago

Westlife are so good. But maybe best when Brian was around?

brook01011d ago

I’m throwing The Corrs into the mix. We went to see them last year and they were sooo good! Also they shouldn’t be on the top list but we can’t forget B*Witched and their classic C’est La Vie 💃💃💃

In terms of newer artists, Kojaque and Kean Kavanagh are doing great things as per, and keep an eye out for Joshua Burnside, brought out a fantastic album this year

People - we all missed The Queen of Soul! But you guys are all too young to remember her !!

dale.odonnell11d ago

Aretha Franklin 🙌🏼 If you want some modern northern soul, from another queen albeit one originating from Scotland, check out the fantastic Brooke Combe. She’s going to be a star.

Wildcard pick - some flashy new 80s tv show - or possibly Rivals season 3 - catapults Donna Summer into the charts 😂

sherlock_b12d ago

Yes … she was one of the greats… I think I can just remember her 👀🤔😉

Bruno Mars, Rihanna & Justin Bieber are among the most streamed artists in the world... who's your pick to get into this prestigious list over the next decade? 👀

Who are the upcoming artists to look out for?

Cannot stop thinking about Taylor Swift’s appearance at the Emmy’s! SURELY those Easter Eggs all point to Reputation TV? Although I’m REALLY hoping for Debut TV 🤡

brook01012d ago

This latest announcement is not feeling like Reputation or Debut TV 🥴

callum_boyle18d ago

She knows the marketing game, she’ll keep people on strings as long as possible and fans will be there no matter what. She does like dropping news out of nowhere too so fully expect that

brook01018d ago

Surely we’ve got to get a Debut TV at some point? SURELY?! I aren’t even that bothered about Reputation 🐍 in comparison, just skip to debut please 😂
