I went to see Westlife in Dublin last night as a surprise for the wife. They were great but it got me thinking, where do they rank when it comes to Irish success stories in the music industry?

Westlife are so good. But maybe best when Brian was around?

I’m throwing The Corrs into the mix. We went to see them last year and they were sooo good! Also they shouldn’t be on the top list but we can’t forget B*Witched and their classic C’est La Vie 💃💃💃

In terms of newer artists, Kojaque and Kean Kavanagh are doing great things as per, and keep an eye out for Joshua Burnside, brought out a fantastic album this year

Have you heard much of Madra Salach? And Cardinals another one on the rise

The Undertones deserve some praise! Given the political circumstances they came from in Derry in the late 70s, huge success story that they had such a great career

I’d say they’re up there, obviously way behind U2

Westlife were brilliant at Croke Park the other week fot Katie Taylor’s farewell fight 👏👏

I always liked Van Morrison

Good shout, I forgot about him

I think we forgot Dana and Johnny Logan!

Louis Walsh’s choir boys are nowhere near the top. U2, Thin Lizzy, The Cranberries, Sinead O’Connor, The Pogues, Rory Gallagher, The Dubliners. There’s a new wave of amazing Irish music too. Bands like Fontaines DC, The Mary Wallopers, but also Gurriers are amazing! I’ll end this note with a classic recommendation: After All - The Frank and Walters.

Mary Wallopers’ new album is amazing

The greatest ever Irish song! I grew up to that !!

I’m going with Westlife and.m Boyzone, Thin Lizzy probably the best actual band. Not having U2, would rather put a full pack of matches out in my eyes one by one than listen to their drones 😂😂
jonny1w ago
Don’t have to like them, but U2 are an all time great band

Everyone knows the obvious, Christy Moore, the Dubliners. The Pogues, despite technically being English. The Cranberries etc etc. Fontaines D.C, Snow Patrol and The Script in particular all massively underrated. Kingfishr will be right up there eventually too based on current trajectory. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WBQ65EBKbdw&ra=m

What a shout!

Kingfishr 👏great shout

Nowhere close to the top. Thin Lizzy, the Cranberries, U2, Sinead O’Connor, Fontaines DC, The Mary Wallopers, Snow Patrol, Rory Gallagher…. all better

Val Doonigan ?
jameslloyd14.jl1w ago
U2 are obviously at the top in a league of their own. I’d like to imagine Fontaines D.C. can eclipse Westlife’s success too
daviescallum421w ago
I can’t see the hype around Fontaines DC as much as I try to like them
dantowen819511w ago
I quite like Inhaler, with Bono’s lad

U2, Cranberries, Thin Lizzy, Sinead, Van Morrrison with Westlife and Boyzone all at the top. Val Doonigan, The Bachelors and Daniel O’Donnell for the older ones among us.
