Who is the most underrated Everton player of the Premier League era, and why? 🤔

kyle.dimond1d ago

I think most people rate Baines and Coleman but maybe not to the level where you’re talking about all-time great prem full backs and their consistency argues otherwise

daviescallum421d ago

I think Baines & Coleman, as a pair, are both so underrated. It feels like nobody outside of Everton actually realises how good they were? The best full backs in the league for a good 4-year period, both consistently up there for well over a decade

anthonymanley19562d ago

Bainsy was one of the best players to wear the blue shirt brillant defender brillant going forward and an expert free kick taker

daviescallum421d ago

We miss him so much I think

robi2d ago

Leighton Baines is the correct answer. Criminally underrated. Arguably one of the best left backs ever in the Prem. Set pieces, penalties, defending. Yet barely ever gets a mention in any best 11s. If he had played for any of the Sky 6 he would be a shoe in for a Premier League best 11. Andy Robertson, Ashley Cole etc aren't fit to lace his boots

markmarston6h ago

Racked up a good number of England caps too!

gramorris2d ago

Joe Parkinson - absolutely loved that guy

collincollins67242d ago

Big Davie Weir for me , snip at £250k as well

slukebarnes3d ago

Lee carsley was immense for Everton in his last couple of seasons.

m.garrett5063d ago

I always rated naysmith.

markmarston6h ago

He was decent! Gelled the team together nicely at the top of the pitch

tom.procter3d ago

You know the more I think about it, the more I think Gueye could be the most underrated. So good across two spells and even in his mid-thirties he was looking like one of the fittest midfielders in the league. Obv he dipped a bit last season and has now moved on, but what a player

daviescallum421d ago

Yeah not a bad shout actually, didn't even consider him myself which probably lends to your point! 😂

tom.procter3d ago

Leon Osman. Perhaps overshadowed at times by the likes of Arteta and Cahill, but a great servant who brought industry and never shirked responsibility

eoin3d ago

Coleman is properly rated i feel. Qn out of the box one maybe but Bernard. He was a magician on his day and scored some bangers

freddie3d ago

Did you know he cost 40k tho? Just in case no one has mentioned it…

james.brooke3d ago

I don’t like to give him any credit generally but maybe Arteta? Was never the best midfielder in the league and was probably about where he belonged, but maybe could’ve joined a better team in his prime. Would’ve probably got Spain caps if he was born 3-5 years earlier too

chillout3d ago

Arteta was criminally underrated during his time at Everton. He played 209 times for the club and scored 35 goals - and was the creative spark for David Moyes’ most successful Everton teams. Great shout.

lrandall12103d ago

Tony Hibbert was mr reliable

brogan3d ago

Perhaps Joseph Yobo given the number of games played? Clearly rated by Moyes during his first spell at the club

markmarston6h ago

Great shout!

will.butcher3d ago

Osman’s longevity was incredible. Deserved more England caps

markmarston6h ago

So true, silky footy player!

matthew.johns3d ago

I feel like a lot of these players are rated by Everton fans, but are underrated by general football and Premier League watchers. Leon Osman is my pick, I always thought he was such a great player and didn’t get the credit he deserved!

charlesjones3d ago

Maybe my Fulham bias showing but I think Iwobi is one of the great underrated Prem players. Would do a job for many top teams

gramorris2d ago

He’s the African with the most premier league appearances

freddie3d ago

Just a solid 7/10 every game isn’t he

caleb.sage3d ago

Most of these players were rated. I’m going with Yakubu, centre-forward play was unreal. Peak Barclaysman!

markmarston6h ago

Love this shout!!

chillout3d ago

The ‘Yak’ - in 07/08 became the first person since since Peter Beardsley in 91/92 to score 20+ goals in a season. Injury in 2008 sidelined him for nearly a year, however, and he never really got back to his best thereafter.

kyle.archer3d ago

Were any of the players listed in that poll underrated?

jamie.theodosi3d ago

I’d say Gareth Barry, although I don’t know how rated he was by Everton fans, but in terms of overall premier league fans, I don’t think he was massively rated

chillout3d ago

Former Everton assistant manager Graeme Jones described Barry as the ‘brain of the team’, and called him the finest professional he has ever worked with.

chillout3d ago

Sylvain Distin and Tony Hibbert spring to mind. Distin was a real physical presence and one of the most reliable overseas defenders in Premier League history. Hibbert was a classic no nonsense defender who often kept so called elite wingers quiet during games.

james.brooke3d ago

Hibbert is a great shout

dantowen819513d ago

Lee Carsley? No one really talks about him these days but he was a massive part of the Moyes success

chillout3d ago

Not a bad shout - 6 years a servant, and instrumental in the 04/05 Premier League season when Everton finish fourth. In 06/07 he actually started every single Premier League match.

markmarston3d ago

I know he’s rated by Everton fans but this man doesn’t get the credit he deserves in England. Saved Everton from relegation multiple times and he’s been England’s most consistent performer for almost a decade👏👏

dantowen819513d ago

Best ever England goalkeeper? I think so, at least since 66
