Yes you’re right he was whistle happy , but he did tend to keep the cards in his pocket.

In them days, the referees like jack taylor and clive Thomas would say get up and get on with it, you had to break their legs to get a yellow card 😭

Jack Taylor refereed the 1974 World Cup Final between West Germany (2) and Netherlands (1). Clive Thomas was famous for blowing his whistle during a Brazil v Sweden match at the 78 tournament a fraction of a second before the ball went into the net, disallowing the goal. The match ended 1-1, and Thomas was sent home and never refereed another WC match.

It was a dirty game, they had Tommy smith, thou shall not pass, and we had hard nut mickey Lyon’s, if that game was played today with VAR, it would have ended up five a side 😂

My first memory of Everton was as a child and sticking squad / manager cards into a book to celebrate the 69/70 Division One title. I think they came in FKS packets from the sweet shop.

My first memory was watching Mikel Arteta bang them in from long range! What a player. Much like you, I loved collecting cards… Match Attax they were.
