Mauricio Pochettino thinks Chelsea should be STRIPPED of the 2016/17 PL title

Has he got a point, or is he talking rubbish?

dfrenchman2w ago

Winning titles / trophies becomes part of any clubs history, legacy. Does he know you cant change history. learn from it and start changing things if you want Tottenham to win the league.....oneday.

chrisbergin642w ago

If clubs break the rules Tey should be punished regardless of who they are.

philbrown552w ago

Can't recall exact details of Chelsea's transgressions, but titles should be taken away where an advantage has been gained to win titles by flouting the financial rules. Manchester City are of course the principal culprits. I look forward to them having those titles removed, and also suffering, let's say, three relegations and a 10 year ban from Europe.

davesims2w ago

No, no No . Too long ago and sound like sour grapes! Where do we stop if he achieves this. Why bring it up now? Sour grapes

sour grapes is about right, reminds me of arsene "whingy" wenger, whenever arsenal were beaten

patrickwalton842w ago

I don't want to think about that sorry

lgonz874953w ago

He's wrong. Can't retroactively awards titles to other teams. At most, you can strip the titles from the guilty party, but cannot be awarded to anyone else. Ponchentinno needs to focus on its current team, the US Men National team. He got a contract extension even though the Americans haven't accomplished anything with him.

ericisgod663w ago

The thought of City being stripped of their titles arouses me but tbh stripping clubs of silverware for breaching the rules is a logistical nightmare, not to mention the legal implications. Relegated with point deduction start seems fair. Not only that but if the team do not know then they fought and won their titles why should they be punished?

blackcatguard-shop3w ago

I think taking away the title at this point is not very effective, it's 10 years ago so who cares. Better to dock points from the current season, start at 20 and work your way up

davesims2w ago

No leave well alone. its out of date and who cares ?

sprussell19583w ago

No the past is the past also tge new Chelsea owners self reported the instant, if the hadn’t no one would know.

ph87400953w ago

Yes any team that breaks premier league rules no matter the rule no matter how long it was when the team that won the league should be stripped of their titles. Not only should they ne stripped of their titles points deductions also. City should be stripped off every single title if they are found guilty of breaking 115 charges they have been charged with.

bsnewman163w ago

Totally agree..Rules are Rules.. Juventus in the 80's lost titles,I think there were others.............. But Where does that leave off-shore Accounts Glasgow Rangers & their crew of players who would Never Ever have play with them without THE ILLEGAL PAYMENTS.. They Retained all their titles somehow ??

dfrenchman3w ago

How many teams haven't won titles with offside goals. I think if VAR was introduced back then, we would've been questioning every single final that took place in the premiere league. If Tottenham wants to be recognized then prove us wrong this season. Stop dwelling in the past. This is Chelseas season. The club world cup champs are back.

taylorjoe413w ago

Yes definitely specially if it’s City..

timobs3w ago

Jealousy and hypocrisy at it's best. Why didn't you bring this up while coaching Chelsea?

badger.prodder3w ago

The problem with any retrospective punishment is when will it actually stop. Ghost goals? Penalty appeals pre VAR, or incidents that VAR wasn't used for.

jemesone3w ago

The words of a gaffer who hasn't won anything meaningful all through his career. Might as well scrap for any semblance of a title.

donaghcorby19973w ago

Wild and bitter take.

philchristie19553w ago

Nothing but a born looser trying to get his hands on any kind of trophy he can

jamesgmcmurray3w ago

Why's he still going on about this he lost fair and square

dale.odonnell3w ago

Speaking of which, when are Man City getting stripped of their titles after years of cheating? 🤔

camerondesc13w ago

Ridiculous idea that shouldn’t even be entertained.

jordan.harris3w ago

I know he was never universally loved at Chelsea, but I cannot understand why any manager would make this comment, particularly when it refers to a former club. Looks like the sourest of grapes. What football fan would want to be awarded a title this way?

george.patten3w ago

Such a load of waffle. If you deserved the title you would’ve won it, end of

caleb.sage3w ago

Cry me a river.

nelson272633w ago

Pochettino needs to SIT DOWN. He’s failed dismally to win anything on his own, so he wants a title handed to him. GO AWAY!

dale.odonnell3w ago

Ouch! 😄

seanfisher3w ago

If we’re going down this rabbit hole, Liverpool and Manchester United are about to pick up quite a few Premier League titles when City get all of theirs stripped for 115 charges!

shamanth.jayaram3w ago

When's the 'We won the league because Chelsea cheated' DVD coming out?

seanfisher3w ago

Available to buy in five instalments of £10

chillout3w ago

So ex-Chelsea manager Poch thinks the club should be stripped of the 16/17 Premier League title - which would then go to Spurs (which he was then managing). Well, he would say that, wouldn’t he. Ain’t gonna happen, though, as the case was officially settled.

callum_boyle3w ago

Tell me why you’ve never won anything without telling me why you’ve never won anything

aaditya.krishnamurthy3w ago

You’re telling me the Uber Eats Ligue 1 title doesn’t count??

johnverrall113w ago

I agree with Poch. If you make rules, what is the point in having teams break them and given little punishment while others stick to them and are put on the back foot because of it. Spurs are the rightful champions that season

jamesshearman233w ago

To dare is to poo. 💩

walkercharlie8283w ago

He actually wants a second place trophy now 🤦🏻‍♂️ So Spursy

martin.crawford3w ago

Wanting titles retrospectively awarded in meeting rooms instead of on the pitch. Loser mentality

badger.prodder3w ago

I think court rooms, maybe the phrase your looking for.

caleb.sage3w ago

Lol, what a comment!

matthew.johns3w ago

Absolutely ridiculous sentiment, tarnishing his legacy at the club if anything with these comments…

seanfisher3w ago

Idk, Spurs fans will probably be all over this 😂

aaditya.krishnamurthy3w ago

ahh yes, nothing more noble and glorious as a manager than wanting to be handed a trophy seven years later on a rule issue when you couldn’t do your job and close things out the right way

jackdrury3w ago

It’s his best chance at winning anything meaningful in fairness

kyle.archer3w ago

If Pochettino thinks Chelsea should be stripped of their title, he could have a field day with Man City's 115 charges

aaditya.krishnamurthy3w ago

He wouldn’t because he was never close to them in the title race - rules matter when it affect Poch

charlesjones3w ago

Ridiculous. If we want to talk about stripping titles let’s go back and look at Howard Webb’s officiating of Manchester United…

seanfisher3w ago

Or the officiating of Arsenal in 2025/26 👀

jamesshearman233w ago

I think Mauricio Pochettino should worry about being the Spursiest manager in the world. Maybe if you didn’t bottle every big game you’d have won more. Idiot.

jackdrury3w ago

Get over yourself Poch. Just because you were never loved here…
