Who is the most underrated Man United player of the Premier League era, and why? 🤔
stephenjholmes11d ago
Denis Irwin

It was definitely Carrick. Park was praised a lot for his versatility and work-rate. Carrick did so much of the dirty work in a midfield pivot and also controlled the tempo so well. England would have had better results in major tournaments if he was at the base of their midfield and two of Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard starting ahead based on the opponents

Ruud van Nistelrooy. Best pure finisher in United's history. Of course based on what players did whilst they were at the club, so not Real Madrid Ronaldo.

Don’t think you can really say Carrick or PJS are underrated anymore. They certainly were at the time but so many people have since come out to say how important they actually were it kind of makes them not underrated anymore

Van nistoroy always thought he never got Cantona giggs Beckham Keane!! Recognition

Ruud is the best pure striker I’ve seen play for us. I always felt he was a little unlucky that he played in some of United’s weaker teams under Sir Alex, a lot of change in those early 2000s teams

For his longevity at this level, I don’t think Evra gets enough credit. Was a strong, solid and reliable full-back.

And then he randomly started scoring headers about 5 years into his United career

People forget how good Kanchelskis was! A massive part of our early Prem success. See also Paul Parker and Gary Palister

Kanchelskis was awesome. It was awful the way he ended up going to Everton. Lee Sharpe was another who could have been a legend for us.

I do not think those of a certain age forget how good Kanchelskis was at all. I would still say now he is one of best right wingers I have ever seen... Fast, direct and could go to the line or cut in... Something lost in today's game. .

Darren Fletcher. When he came to the Albion he brought such a class. Similar with Jonny Evans, best CB I’ve seen at Albion in my lifetime probably
dantowen819513d ago
I have a fletcher shirt from when I was a kid 😂surely the only kid with one of those
tom.procter3d ago
Carrick did get plaudits but I don’t think they were ever that proportional to how good he actually was. Other English CMs like Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes being around at the same time probably stopped him from being as revered as he should
lrandall12103d ago
Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans were constantly consistent
dantowen819513d ago
We had a load of those - O’Shea and Wes Brown fit the bill too, maybe Phil Neville - very solid squad players
dale.odonnell3d ago
Carrick for me but Park is close. Also, Andy Cole severely underrated.
matthew.johns3d ago
Would agree with many saying Park, such a talented and reliable player. Think Carrick would be a close second for me
george.patten3d ago
Park is almost overrated he gets called underrated so often… Would say it’s De Gea. Think he was world class and feels like his reputation has been hammered after a poor year or two at the end
dale.odonnell3d ago
Couldn't disagree more. There is a reason so many people say Park was underrated.

For me it was Park Ji-Sung from your list, 40 PL goal involvements in 108 starts is impressive, was atireless runner and played for the team and his mates, never seemed to tire, Darren fletcher was also underrated for me, was so important for United in many games, had complete trust from Ferguson also, who used to use him in many big games
dancoombs3d ago
Park and Fletcher always delivered in big games, that always endeared them. I still wonder what might have been if Fletcher wasn’t suspended for the 09 final
jordan.harris3d ago
Not sure Andy Cole ever got the credit he deserved from most
freddie3d ago
It is crazy isn’t it that someone can score that many goals and still not get his flowers!
jonny3d ago
I think Carrick is pretty widely rated. Underrated I would have to say belongs to Ander Herrera. Key in what should have been a title winning season under Jose Mourinho and I think if he were there today he would be valued a lot more.
seanfisher3d ago
His name also popped into my head 😅 the Yeovil goal, the Hazard man-marking masterclass, I loved him so much 😂 deserved a PL title
seanfisher3d ago
Park Ji-Sung and I think any player who shared the pitch with him would say the same! It was 12vs11 with him in midfield
chillout3d ago
He was always everywhere at once - when he was first signed from PSV, many thought it was just a marketing gimmick to sell shirts ! Would have got a lot more plaudits, but was a bit overshadowed by the big names - Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Giggs, etc.
chillout3d ago
Carrick for me - one of the most tactically intelligent players ever. Pep described him as one of the best holding midfielders he’d ever seen. Honourable mentions go to Irwin, Fletcher, Andy Cole, O’Shea, Nani, Johnsen and Valencia.
dancoombs3d ago
Ronny Johnsen. Champions League winning centre-back and 150 appearances. A true bargain for £1.2m
dantowen819513d ago
This is the correct answer for me. No one ever talks about Ronny these days

Ji-Sung Park!! The glue to a dynasty
freddie3d ago
Park Ji-Sung will be most people’s I reckon! I’m still a big fan of Berbatov personally. Don’t think he gets the plaudits he deserves because he was ‘lazy’
dakir.thanveer3d ago
Fun fact! Berba played for my local club back in India. It didn't go well 😂 Had a feud with manager... 🥁David James!!!
markmarston3d ago
What a player Berba was… elegant footballer. One of the best first touch’s in PL history
