Paul Scholes says Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans are too similar to play together - Do you agree?

The former United star believes neither player are aggressive enough in midfield...

lamekmek081w ago

Yes I agree with him. I am of the same opinion. You have Mount, Zilkazi. Please don't start Tileman. Bring back Bruno in the midfield while waiting for Baleba waiting for Baleba

ken19531w ago

Neither can play the No6 role. Mainoo needs to be able to link defence and attack and Tielemans should be the back up to Bruno.

dancoombs1w ago

I actually would have given Dan Gore a shot at the six instead of sending him out on loan

freddie1w ago

Absolutely agree. Said it from the start, good fee for Youri but there’s a reason why, he isn’t that good!

febced11w ago

Kobbie is developing other areas of his game, which is going to be beneficial. Man U needs an athletic bruiser-type midfielder which is where Baleba comes in, or even Santos. Maybe the formation must be adjusted.

eoin1w ago

Yes said this from the start, that pairing gets run over by the top midfield units. Baleba needs to be there Next to one of them

Paul Scholes is back. Here we go again. 😅🙄

thetruthpersonified1w ago

I agree with Scholes and was of that opinion when we bought Tielemans. In my opinion, our midfield would work a lot better if we actually had an identity and a way of playing. Alarm bells ring when the Coach states that we deliberately have no style as hard to play against. Also makes it harder for our players to know WTF they are doing!!

adnan.riaz1w ago

I still don’t see a problem with having both. It’ll make a lot more sense when Carlos Baleba is back.

dantowen819511w ago

Possibly. I think Baleba is the key to saving our season really. Should be Baleba, Bruno and Kobbie/Youri I think

adnan.riaz1w ago

Baleba is the key. Fully agree.

thetruthpersonified1w ago

We need to use Santos more too. Sadly I think we let the lad down when we went and bought Tielemans.

dancoombs1w ago

It’s such a small sample size so far. It will depend on the opponent. I would say that I don’t feel City’s midfield were outplaying us at all even when it was 11v11 with Mainoo/Tielemans on the pitch. Baleba might give better balance though

adnan.riaz1w ago

It’s way too early, and as you said, we haven’t seen how Baleba works in this dynamic. That could be the key.

dale.odonnell1w ago

I disagree even if it hasn’t worked to date. Will always depend on the opponent because there will be games - believe it or not - United should dominate possession. That said, I think right now we need a grafter alongside Mainoo. Not a luxury option like Tielemans, who is similar to Eriksen in that respect. We need someone to step in and be a dog. Baleba?

adnan.riaz1w ago

It feels way too early to put out a full verdict. But then again, this is Paul Scholes. 😅🫠

mufcgrw19771w ago

Said this in the summer - for me they are both forward thinking players and don’t feel they would compliment each other if playing together, think it will be one of them playing along Baleba when he is fit and available to come in, don’t think they have the decipline or natural ability/thought to drop if they see the other one moving forward

adnan.riaz1w ago

Baleba is going to be a game-changer. Mark this post. 🔮👀

jameslloyd14.jl1w ago

Yeah they’re both quality on the ball but lack the legs and physicality really. Why the Baleba signing was so important, more of a ‘ground-eater’ type
