Andoni Iraola confirms reason for Bradley Barcola substitution
The Frenchman was taken off with what looked like could be an injury on his full Liverpool debut
camerondesc125d ago
Definitely a big relief, would be a disaster with both him and Gakpo out
dakir.thanveer25d ago
Phew! What a relief. Was really really concerned ngl
james.brooke25d ago
What a relief, thought he looked good tonight even if we didn’t use him enough. Has to score the one on one but the link up with Wirtz was so encouraging nonetheless

What are the biggest positives to take from Liverpool's fightback Champions League win over Atletico Madrid?
The Reds played some brilliant football and are up and running in Europe
chillout24d ago
A tough match, and an important win for the club and the manager. Atletico are no pushovers.
camerondesc125d ago
They fact they were able to beat a low block, that was my one concern for them
david.comerford25d ago
Araujo has made a great start and Barcola doesn't look like a new signing, which is a complement. Should have scored obviously. One of Isak's best games in general play and I also thought Wirtz was good off the ball too. Szobo MOTM

How Liverpool line up as Bradley Barcola gets his full Reds debut
The Frenchman comes in for the injured Cody Gakpo in one of two changes for Andoni Iraola's team
james.brooke25d ago
A real shame about Gakpo, but sounds like he should be for the weekend. Big chance for Rio
natalia.sltysk25d ago
Can’t wait to see Barcola in action 🔥

What are your best and worst memories of Liverpool playing against Atletico Madrid?
The Reds will meet Diego Simeone and co once again on Wednesday
natalia.sltysk25d ago
Best one was the last one- great game! Worst was 2020 🥹🥹🥹
t4tonyibironke26d ago
Don’t know what to expect as this is Andoni Iraola team. I will keep an open mind and hope the boys turn up.
james.brooke27d ago
The Covid game was one of the worst moments of the Klopp era. We should’ve won it that year. Gutting. Would be nice to get revenge for that and th knocking us out of the Europa League semi in (I think) 2010. Thought we were going for extra time and then a Forlan sucker punch. We owe them!

How does Liverpool's new-look forward line compare against the best attacks in Europe?
We could see Bradley Barcola, Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo together for the first time vs Atletico Madrid
jordan.ellis14d ago
It’s nowhere near it. We are toothless right now, but they are all good players and hopefully it clicks soon. Isak is finally coming good. Barcola and Wirtz need to step up and help him out .
ishaqssulaiman9827d ago
yes
peter.lynch27d ago
It’s superb but not even close to being the best in Europe. Gotta look at Madrid, Bayern, City, Barca. All ahead of us in that department easily
Get them out before they mess up another transfer window/season.I think FSG need to move on also.
james.brooke166d ago
A refresh feels like it might be needed, but am always wary of what new owners might look like. FSG have been amazing for us really

Should VAR be scrapped in all competitions, or are the officials just using it incorrectly? ❌
davitodacosta172d ago
So, if it wasn't a penalty, why wasn't a corner awarded as should have been? Why were PSG given a drop-ball? Shocking decisions tbh
peter.lynch172d ago
Think we’d be angry to concede a pen like that… soft in my opinion
josh.barker172d ago
The problem isn't VAR, it's the people using it

Who was Liverpool's most disappointing player against PSG on Tuesday?
We needed so much more...
jimmoulsdale172d ago
Rubbish
daniel.owen172d ago
Frimpong's been poor, but it seems insane Liverpool signed such a specific type of player for a role he didn't play at Leverkusen
josh.barker172d ago
Frimpong and Salah were both off it, Isak wasn't great before he went off either

Full time: The Reds exit the Champions League in limp fashion
Where does this leave Arne Slot?
jackgallagher173d ago
I think he'll stay if Liverpool qualify for the CL again
freddie173d ago
Think he keeps his job till the end of the season, probably only fair, then see what happens. If he gets us UCL tho and performances get a little better, then he absolutely stays. If we can find our clinical edge again then we can be a top football club under Slot, tonight wasn’t really his fault

Thoughts after 45 minutes?
It just hasn't really happened so far 😑
james.brooke173d ago
Effort is there, but the quality just isn't. Needed that Kerkez/VVD one to go in
freddie173d ago
Bit flat. Had some chances, so did they, BIG second half needed. Seems unlikely tho given the injuries and subs

No Rio... Is this the strongest XI Slot can put out? 🤔
8tm67htgf7173d ago
Bench Gakpo and start with Rio. Give Isak the last 30 mins
peter.lynch174d ago
I'd go Robbo over Kerkez! need experience in a match like this

PICK YOUR DREAM FRONT THREE 👀
peter.lynch174d ago
Tough one, but I'm going with Kvarataskhelia and co!
jackgallagher174d ago
Kvarataskhelia one for sure! He's the most entertaining footballer to watch in Europe imo
eoin174d ago
I'd actually go for option 1, purely on an aesthetics basis. Dembele still the best player mentioned here imo
We are going to win 4-1.Everthing will come together and fall into place at the righ time, just in time.
james.brooke176d ago
I hope you're right, but I'm not sure a slightly nervy 2-0 win over Fulham is enough justification to make that prediction. Still, it's nice to feel some positivity
It's time for slot to go and take gapko and mccalister with him, replace him with stevie g as interim manager until the end of the season then we might get a result against PSG, we need a squad clear out and 4 to 5 new players in the summer
catz2271178d ago
Problem is a squad clear out to bring in players that didn't fit hasn't worked for us. It slimmed our squad down too much and Slot prefers to play out of form players like Gakpo and Kerkez rather than Robbo and Rio, Gomez is injury prone so if he is out of action we have no replacement CB and we don't have a RB for Conor
james.brooke178d ago
Would love to see Stevie come back for next week, but it just isn't going to happen. Gakpo on his new deal unlikely to go anywhere, maybe Macca will go, but he's hardly the biggest problem. We signed 4/5 new players last summer and look how that turned out. There's just no easy fix!

Do you still think Liverpool can turn the quarter-final around at Anfield?
chosenchild.dm166d ago
We don't have coach. A person that call himself coach can come and met wonderful players , and before you open eyes he sold all of them out , change the formation of the the club style of Play, will take attacking midfielder and go to defend and so forth. And I will call such a person coach. ....NO...... He's not a coach.
seandon1970173d ago
Y not
curwen52174d ago
We can certainly get a result. If we play our A game.
Behind at the break
mrdelaneymiller179d ago
I never thought I would see LFC play like this. LFC is just chasing the ball without tracking the runners. PSG is moving the ball anywhere they want to. It's hard to accept that such a talented squad can play at such a low level. We simply are not competitive in this match and I doubt that changes in the 2nd half.
james.brooke179d ago
One positive is that it isn't 3-0, as it probably should be. Aside from that, I'm out. This team is going nowhere if we're leaning on Wirtz and Ekitike to lead us
Can this XI get out of Paris with the tie still in reach? 👀
geraldngqwina5179d ago
What people were expecting from a stupid slot , the while of this season were nowhere to found something that never happened before slot .I just watch Liverpool because of the Emblem of the team that IS LIVERPOOL Ijust want slot gone bottom line he's done a lot of damage to our beloved LIVERPOOL.

mrdelaneymiller179d ago
Not with 1st half stats like this: 25% possession, 0 shots on goal, 0 shot attempts. It's hard to be in a match when you can't even take a shot in 45 minutes. We're playing scared. Probably for good reason.
james.brooke179d ago

Form aside, is this a better XI on paper than what we'll see tonight? 🤔
jackgallagher179d ago
Last season's by far! Not having Diaz on the left-flank and TAA at RB has massively hurt Liverpool this season
daniel.owen180d ago
You do watch Diaz vs Real Madrid and wonder if Slot should have done more to keep him... He'd be Liverpool's best forward atm
peter.lynch180d ago
Yep! That looks a better XI than what we'll see tonight in my opinion, Diaz is a massive miss!
♥ 1
No Salah against PSG, unchanged at the back...
daniel.owen180d ago
I'd play Robertson over Kerkez. Think his experience and defensive nous could be key
peter.lynch180d ago
Gotta go with Salah, Frimpong doing very little right now. Would also be tempted with Szoboszlai at RB and Robbo at LB
quickmichael24180d ago
Why cant he pick a good team all of the time
Would any Liverpool players realistically get into PSG's starting XI?
daniel.owen180d ago
Alisson 100%. PSG have had a bit of a nightmare season with keepers. Zabarnyi can be a weak link at CB. Their midfield is head and shoulders above though
mrdelaneymiller181d ago
Allison. That's absolutely it. Last year's versions of Van Dijk and Konate possibly, but definitely not this year's versions of those 2.
♥ 1
eoin181d ago
Szoboszlai In a midfield with vitinha and nerves, that's top tier
CHANGE MY MIND: Liverpool are still the best team in Europe on their day
sfvbiz179d ago
Not any more. We fallen apart mentally, we neither can keep the ball (since players are technically weak, except Rio and Flo) nor pass in normal pace (this is up to Slot mainly). Our game is sluggish, predictable and sooo slow, that it is pain even to watch. And it is easy to beat....
mrdelaneymiller180d ago
LFC only had 4 (yes, 4!) shots on goal across both legs of the round of 16 against PSG last year - compared to PSG's 18. LFC are a shadow of the team that they were last year, so expecting them to improve on last year's performance when they have failed to show up most of the season, is not realistic.
mainstand181d ago
That should be sent to FSG if they are remotely thinking of keeping this guy in post. This is how everyone regards the side under Slot.
All of them deserve to be named player of the match given their all round performances. hundred percent. however Salah for me edged both per a millimeter. because we have been seeing a drop off in form for Salah in the past matches leading to this game. one thing that stand out for me was, came back hungrier to nullify his penalty miss. that hunger.
james.brooke200d ago
The comeback was impressive, but he was MILES off it in the first-half. That can't be ignored, but hopefully it can be a turning point for him
Emphatic from the Reds 🙌
james.brooke200d ago
I've had a feeling for us a bit this season in Europe, but felt that might have been for nothing after the first-leg. Getting that feeling again, think we could go all the way still
eoin200d ago
On our day we can compete with anyone, just haven't seen enough to believe we'll show up in every tie
Who was your Man of the Match in Liverpool's rout of Galatasaray? 💪

Looks like Arne Slot will be benching Rio Ngumoha vs Galatasaray...
catmandu1145200d ago
Hope I'm wrong, but I think we could be in trouble tonight. Slot is on a tightrope and it can't continue, he's been living in borrowed time for a while. The team are so down. We need Rio playing tonight with his speed and passion it may just sway the result!
josh.barker201d ago
Frustrating but expected, hopefully he actually comes off the bench this time
Is the famous Anfield atmosphere for European ties finally dead? ☠️
broo1850201d ago
I am glad to hear that Hughes is going because it my firm believe that he is the problem for slot to win the prem then hughes goes to work and we crumble to much to quickly its upset the balance of the team
chriswillers123201d ago
If they score first we could have a glorious night but don't feel it will happen just bloody play Rio and rip them apart ffs
mrdelaneymiller201d ago
I'm not going to be too harsh on the Real Madrid results, nor the 1-0 loss to eventual champions PSG last year. But, the loss to Atalanta was shocking, as was the 4-1 group stage thrashing by PSV. PSV for Christ sake! We should never, ever be losing by 3 goals to PSV at Anfield. Never!
