What must change to get more fans attending the European Championships?

freddie1mo ago

Can’t exactly take your family there on £150 a ticket… do better

I think it needs to be advertised better! A lot of people I speak to haven’t even heard of the Diamond League for example

Cheaper tickets are a must. Also needs to be promoted better. You could very easily live in the UK and not know this event is taking place. That’s not good enough

Allow folks to actually park on site and not require public transport oh and make it cheaper.

Athletics needs more stars again. Couldn’t tell you the biggest name at this competition whereas in the past you’d have some genuine stars.

I’d say the women’s has far more ‘stars’. A big problem is the rise in social media and the amount of running influencers who don’t compete that have built bigger brands and profiles than the likes of an Amy Hunt, Matthew Hudson-Smith etc

There was a time in years gone by when major events were TV gold - and you’re right the stars seemed to shine more brightly in those days.

High costs of tickets and in stadium prices, poor event marketing and scheduling fatigue all work against people attending.

Make it more affordable and not just the tickets as you’re looking at upwards of £15 for food. A rare chance for youngsters to see the most talented athletes and they can’t afford it. It’ll kill the sport and especially with people working in the day, evening sessions are their best chance to go in person
