Enzo Maresca wants to carry on Pep Guardiola's legacy at Man City, but how likely is he to reach those levels?

will.butcher1mo ago

Don’t see it. Shoes too big to fill, especially after losing Rodri

harveyleonard991mo ago

He’ll he gone in 24 months. The kind of manager everyone hypes up but ends up club hopping because he can’t live up to expectations

If the community shield is anything to go by then it’s gonna be a real struggle

shamanth.jayaram1mo ago

Nobody is ever reaching Pep’s level. Rodri’s loss is massive. Won’t be surprised if he’s sacked by February

chillout1mo ago

You can see why they went for him - I just hope they give him time. Difficult to know who would be a better fit at this stage, but I think the fans and the board may need to temper their expectations.

Not sure the conditions are even there for Maresca to suceed. Weird to see City in a relative state having lost big characters without replacing. Can see a short tenure while they wait for Kompany to be free.

I’m really not sure about their signings these days. Way more misses than hits compared to Pep’s earlier years there.

shamanth.jayaram1mo ago

That’s a great shout. Can definitely see Kompany returning to City in the near future

kyle.dimond1mo ago

I don’t know if it’s possible to reach Pep’s levels because it’s not just about the success, he changed so much. I think he’ll do well and win some trophies but the amount of changes in the squad might take some time to adapt to

martin.crawford1mo ago

I think they’ll win the league Thought he was the best choice for continuity with Kompany unavailable. Best is yet to come from Semenyo, Cherki, Guehi, Khusanov, Anderson etc and several more big signings to come

kyle.archer1mo ago

Maresca can aim to continue Guardiola's legacy at Man City, but doing so is completely different and will be very difficult from the start.

Depends if he can get his ideas across to the players quickly. He’ll need to make sure the intensity is the same too - can’t make the mistake Ancelotti did at Bayern when replacing Pep

callum_boyle1mo ago

He knows half of the squad already from his time there previously. He was a big figure behind the scenes for the Treble season

callum_boyle1mo ago

I don’t think he’ll ever compare to Pep (unless he wins two champions league titles) but there’s no reason why he can’t carry on the good work. He played a big part behind the scenes and has been mentored so he is ready for the job. Might take a few weeks/months to get to speed but I think he’ll do really well

chillout1mo ago

I don’t think anyone will ever compare to Pep - 20 titles, I think, in 10 years beats everyone in the modern era. Even Fergie didn’t average 2 a season. The new guy is on a hiding to nothing.
