What does Aryna Sabalenka need to change to start winning Grand Slams again?

She just lost the US Open final to Elena Rybakina...

cp232w ago

I’m a big fan of Aryna. For the past few months she just has looked so unhappy to be on the court. What used to come across as intensity now looks like misery - even when she’s winning! I think she’ll continue to struggle until she can find the joy in playing again.

Roddick, you are SO wrong! It's not that Sabalenka showed "disrepect" toward her opponent. She showed OUT OF CONTROL BAD BEHAVIOR. She's SUPPOSED to be a roll model. Yes, it's frustrating to lose but one must be GRACIOUS about it, not a pouty toddler tantrum. I've lost ALL respect for Sabalenka, one who I UESD to admire. She SHOULD have been fined!!!

janegraham2919622w ago

I've always felt ( only in her case) that the screaming all through every match ,is completely unnecessary! It's only to try to put her opponents off! Especially as she does not do it in practice sessions. I have to turn the tv down, I hate it Grrrrr

shells07082w ago

She needs to change her attitude and visible on-court frustration.

jscottaaj2w ago

Sabalenka is a Big baby. Very sad and unprofessional for her to smash rackets. She has such a Big ego!

d.ingrid19472w ago

A BLOATED ego, at that. Used to be my fave. No longer! Shame on her to think her behavior is acceptable. She should be fined for such UGLY toddler tantrums.

themandoist2w ago

What needs "changing" will never happen. Too old to change attitude, or condescending 'humor',. Her nonsensical ineffective screaming (which she never, ever does on practice courts) is childish. Saba can never escape her UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOUR post-match. The disgusting facial expressions and rolling-eyes behind Elena's back at the podium was inexcusable.

zolnierowiczhelen2w ago

My feelings exactly. No respect for anyone. Not the princess she thinks she is.

jscottaaj2w ago

Totally agree with your comments; childish, facial remarks!

1mariajuras12w ago

Needs to be more gracious in defeat. Not my fav anymore.

milkpl273w ago

Way too much anger in her...she hurts herself

knightfurysow3w ago

You can't try too hard to hit the ball with all the muscle you have, your accuracy will suffer. And smile when you lose please, be a role model!

jscottaaj2w ago

She's far from a role model.

taylorsis8103w ago

She needs to go away!! Her foul arrogant and rude behavior have no place in professional tennis!! She’s a sore loser and is disrespectful to everyone that beats her!! So glad she loss!!

christov033w ago

Yes, she's too angry and it's not nice to watch. How many racquets did she smash - it's like watching a spoilt brat!

garcia.evee333w ago

I think the mentality is holding her back!

d.ingrid19472w ago

She's way too intense and should rein in her toddler tantrums. That racket bashing was ugly and so was she for such out of control behavior. She should know better.

dhayagudefamily3w ago

She .needs to realize that she is playing to entertain the crowd, not her own theatrics...

tom.procter3w ago

Perhaps just try to be in her own head less. Maybe losing the number 1 ranking will actually help going forward. What a performance from Rybakina last night though 🥶

tensionrelieversart3w ago

She needs to forgive herself when she makes mistakes, instead of beating up on her self

daviescallum423w ago

I also think her movement, which she has improved, got badly exposed by Rybakina. Her footwork seemed all over the place, and whilst Rybakina can do that to anyone with her fast and heavy shots, Sabalenka seemed to be reactive and therefore chasing the game the whole way through, always on the back foot

daviescallum423w ago

It's so tough to say, because the results suggest a mentality issue, but I genuinely don't think that is the case. Maybe next year, without the pressure being number one, defending any slams, we might see the very best of her

johnverrall113w ago

I think she does need more of a plan b. It feels to me if she can’t just completely overpower her opponents her game lacks a bit of subtlety.

matthew.johns3w ago

A lot of it appears to down to confidence, but sometimes when you’re playing against someone like Rybakina you just have to hold your hands up and say they were too good. The more conceding Grand Slam defeats for Sabalenka this year were at Roland Garros and Wimbledon…

wylie_kiote3w ago

Her attitude & arrogance, she's a terrible loser & role model, disrespectful to her opponents, she's got a foul temper, do you need me to keep going?

tdalia.gow2w ago

I was all for sabalenka when she started to win, what really the French open she lost against Coco.. she was horrible and disrespectful Her "humor" is not funny it's condescending and she knows it she doesn't take ownership of her loses and rages at her box, smashes balls and rackets. Just a baby unprofessional

daviescallum423w ago

I don’t think she’s ever disrespectful to opponents. She only ever gets annoyed at herself

camerondesc13w ago

Maybe take an extended period of time off? She seemed more stressed than I've ever seen her during that final. It's more mental than tennis-wise.

johnverrall113w ago

I think she often looks like this during big matches. I expect she’ll be back raring to go in Australia and possibly even at the WTA Finals now she’s lost her number one spot

george.patten3w ago

She just needs that confidence back. Think if she arrives in New York in the form she was in when she won the Sunshine Double she is 100 x more likely to win that match
