Was Nick Kyrgios' ban from tennis too short?

dowland584d ago

It Is ridicously short

brook0104w ago

Blink and you missed it ban! It’s the principle I think, yeah it might not have been performance enhancing but these athletes are supposed to be (you’d hope) good examples for others, so I’d say it should have been longer

jzent7604w ago

I am not sure how long a ban he should receive but he hardly ever plays now anyway so does anybody really care about this over hyped monster of an individual who has serious mental issues he needs to address and needs to learn how to conduct himself towards other professionals and human beings.

tom.procter4w ago

Although this was not Kyrgios enhancing performance, it still feels a bit too lenient to me

willit22504w ago

Yes, he's not good for tennis. He has no honor

getjeffrey4w ago

He doesn't play that much, what difference does it make. He plays mostly exhibitions for the big check most of the time.

julsthegreat10884w ago

Alexandria Eala. Praying she win.

bamamatt74w ago

Yes, 6 months to the insane asylum.

luggmike584w ago

He is so good for the sport but I think he got off lightly. We need all the facts to pass judgement

daviescallum423w ago

He's not been good for the sport for years now

johnverrall114w ago

He was good for the sport. I’m less certain he is now

adnan.riaz4w ago

The biggest pantomime villain going in tennis. 😂

peter.lynch4w ago

One month seems pretty short… plus he barely plays anyway so it won’t matter much to him. Think he’s gotten away with one here, especially given past bans for other players

adnan.riaz4w ago

Sums up sports nowadays. Used to hand out real punishments. 🤷

chillout4w ago

If that sanction was in accordance with the rules, then one month it is. It wasn’t a performance enhancing thing - I think he admitted to using cocaine in a nightclub. Interesting that he also lost no major sponsors.

kyle.archer4w ago

Had Kyrigos' ban been for a performance enhancing drug, you would certainly argue it is a leniant ban.

adnan.riaz4w ago

Still feels like it should be longer. Not the best message to send about the sport.

donaghcorby19974w ago

Make an example of him, I say!

kilham.max4w ago

I definitely think so. Seems more of a slap on the wrist than a definitive punishment. Dare I say, Vondrousova’s ruling looks strange now…

pranav.shahaney4w ago

Had it been a performance enhancer, I agree that it should have been a longer suspension. However, this is just negligence on his end to have a party drug. The suspension is fitting along with a decent fine

freddie4w ago

Incredibly light… like stupidly light

dale.odonnell4w ago

I get why there's a shock factor. COCAINE! But as a substance, it's hardly enhancing his performance. Playing devil's advocate here, but what would be gained from longer bans concerning athletes and substances that don't enhance their performance? The biggest positive is that he's accepted treatment. It's another story completely whether that helps.

james.brooke4w ago

Should’ve probably made an example of him really. Wrong message to send out

antonymmartin844w ago

One month ban is far too short and it certainly won’t act as a deterrent to others who may dabble in the drug. However, recieving treatment for abuse of the drug is the most important thing. I don’t know whether he is an addict or not, that’s for him to decide, but it’s obvious that drug use is not conducive with playing elite-level sport

jameslloyd14.jl4w ago

A one month ban from a game he barely even plays anyway? That’ll show him!

petrabravencova14w ago

I think th ban was too short. Drugs have no place in professional sport. Athletes choose a career that comes with clear rules and responsibilities, and they should be expected to follow them. A one month ban feels far too lenient and risks sending the wrong message, particularly to younger athletes and fans.

leeclarke05084w ago

Guess it not what you've done but who you are. We've seen that with Sinner. He's a busted flush anyway so will hardly make a deal of difference

johnverrall114w ago

Wonder how Gasquet and Evans feel

charlesjones4w ago

Possession of a class A drug can, theoretically, get you five years in prison in the UK. So I think it’s fair to say a one month ban from tennis is pretty light.

johnverrall114w ago

It’s just crazy how vocal Kyrgios was about Sinner’s ban being too short in comparison to other’s. Yet he’s silent when it works in his favour…

matthew.johns4w ago

I think so, Dan Evans was banned for 12 months for a similar incident in 2017! Ultimately, it will have very little impact on the overall tennis landscape as Nick Kyrgios is a part-time tennis player at best…

camerondesc14w ago

Yes it is, but happy to hear he has accepted treatment.

daviescallum424w ago

I think it's tricky. Cocaine doesn't improve his play, it's not performance enhancing, it's just a grey area. There has to be a policy, but I'm not all that bothered about it being a shorter ban. Makes no difference anyway given he rarely plays

george.patten4w ago

I think so. The rules have changed so it’s not preferential treatment, but I don’t believe a one-month ban is much of a deterrent. Should be six-months reduced to three if you accept the treatment imo
