How would you stop Alexander Zverev taking so much time before serving?

Zverev has frustrated opponents at the US Open with his ball bouncing before serving...

daniell2w ago

Tennis at his highest level is a mind game, not bouncing balls...

mardadewet1w ago

daniell2w ago

Why we should think stopping players to play their tennis? It's nonsense...

jzent7602w ago

Zverev matches take twice as long because he bounces the ball too long, like Djokovic and Cilic. Its terrible and cannot watch any of their matches.

njnknh7kyg2w ago

It's annoying, but he's not breaking any rules. Joker is the worst. It's Sacha's routine, it's how he focuses, as long as it's within the time frame, leave him be.

jurgen9792w ago

Wasn't this question a little bit longer? Where they mentioned the bouncing of the ball?

janegraham2919622w ago

Bet its mainly Ben fans complaining! Bad looser 😂

janegraham2919622w ago

I think the people who didn't want Sascha to win, just want something to moan about. Loads of players bounce. Nole , my man, ALWAYS does, with no complaints. Im soooo happy Sascha won. Sod these wallies!! Play YOUR game Sascha And KEEP winning beautiful boy!❤️

jurgen9792w ago

I too am very happy he won. Ben's arrogance has lost him the final amid other things like Sasha being the better player than Ben. I have nothing against Ben though. He was too high on his horse that day.

freddie2w ago

“Let him play” - yes but it’s soooo boring

cbaumgartner492w ago

As other commenters have said, "that is his routine and he is within the 25 seconds allowed so not sure how he can be quickened up." He is objectively NOT taking too long to serve. You all are just haters. Try watching tennis with commentary off. The talking heads are influencing you too much.

cbaumgartner492w ago

I wouldn't. He isn't taking more time than he should, regardless of how Shelton "feels" about it. They already have a serve clock. You all are just haters.

jurgen9791w ago

It's his ball bouncing that annoys people.

alan.littleproud2w ago

He was annoying me so much i turned it off, no need to bounce the ball 17 times, just done to annoy his opponent

kilham.max2w ago

Needs to be a shot clock between first and second serve. Too much time is being wasted in between those two serves and players are taking advantage.

alisonrhill502w ago

Go ask Djokovic what he thinks. He will say that it's within the rules and he cant argue against it as he is the worst one that bounces the ball and I have counted that in one game he did it 22 times and within the rules

bestelracing2w ago

Irritating to watch and irritating to play as some players have mentioned. However, that is his routine and he is within the 25 seconds allowed so not sure how he can be quickened up.

imalsman1232w ago

Exactly correct.

jurgen9792w ago

I too find it irritating, but I don't moan about it because there are things I don't like about other players I like, Except Carlitos.

d.ingrid19472w ago

He's got 30 seconds to serve. Doesn't matter how many times he bounces the ball. Leave him alone.

jeffrey.roughgarden2w ago

I'd put a limit of 12 bounces and 2 catches per serve. otherwise a fault.

alisonrhill502w ago

Hang on here. For years we have put up with Djokovic bouncing the up to 18 bounces, I have counted them. Nobody has been brave enough to call him out on it. Now Zverev is called out for taking time but within the limit allowed. Get real, stop degrading him after a long awaited grand slam . Let him enjoy the spotlight.

angela.lees3612w ago

Couldn’t have put it any better!!

rhea.kevin2w ago

I wouldn't worry about stopping him. It's legal to use the entire clock, however, Shelton and his team should have prepared a better "mental strategy" to counteract his "dribble"...simply "step out" of the batters' box aka receiving position right when he's finally ready to serve. It's legal and would have immediately thrown off zverev timing.

psychologyleo2w ago

Well, there is time set for service and Zeverev didn’t time violations, he has right to use the time for concentrating

tufidonna2w ago

I believe he is playing within the 25 seconds rule. The rule wasn't violated in games 1 through to 5 maybe slipped in game 6 but not in game 7. Watch Rolland Gaross and see if he violated the rule!

luggmike582w ago

The home boy took a 7 minute toilet break....constipation stopped him getting a time violation

alisonrhill502w ago

Exactly. Home boy.

jpamplin2w ago

I think there should be a limit on ball bouncing before a serve. Zverev takes far too long and I find it annoying.

alisonrhill502w ago

Djokovic was worse than any current player at using bouncing the ball to the time limit. No-one complained about him that I recall.

jurgen9792w ago

I watched the highlights and this time I haven't noticed that ball bouncing everyone is talking about.

junehenderson022w ago

Just let him play he deserved to win its probs the way he gets rid of his nervous stage

luvme18822w ago

Time violation

lirio77452w ago

Leave him alone. The antics of Osaka and her fashion coming onto tennis is ridiculous. The loud noises coming from servers is ridiculous. Playing God bless America when many people don’t believe in God and changing the words to it for U.S. Open is ridiculous. You’re just pissed off because the player you wanted to win, didn’t win. Grow up.

jurgen9792w ago

Absolutely right. I'm always looking forward to see what Osaka is wearing next. Zverev was definitely a much better player. Plus he was lucky Carlitos wasn't in better form. Otherwise he would have lost like he has lost against Zverev.

helen.mckenzie502w ago

He is within the time limit. Djokovic is worse

jurgen9792w ago

Everyone on here seems to have misread the question, which was actually talking about his ball bouncing before serving.

jurgen9792w ago

I watched highlights of the US open final and couldn't fault his time.

1mariajuras12w ago

Just tell him. Coach. Do your job

camerondesc12w ago

Actually enforcing the rules would be a great start. Or just reduce the shot clock. Either works.

daviescallum422w ago

Another thing that really bothers me is when players toss and catch it. They should have to hit it, “starting your service motion” is a joke and players do take advantage of that silly rule

daviescallum422w ago

Reduce the shot clock, enforce it when it’s broken, and umpires… USE COMMON SENSE. If a player is taking liberties, punish them, or at least warn them earlier than in the last set of the match 🥱

tom.procter2w ago

Stop letting him get away with serving just after the shot clock has actually hit 0 and mark his card early doors. It is absolutely ridiculous

peter.lynch2w ago

Just hit him with a time violation surely? Would quickly solve the problem with no issues…

leeclarke05082w ago

Nip it in the bud earlier. He knows exactly what he's doing

george.patten3w ago

Firstly, umpires need to be strict with when they start the shot clock and to actually punish players when they take too much time. Secondly, the shot clock should be reduced, THERE IS NO NEED TO BOUNCE THE BALL 25 TIMES!

jurgen9792w ago

That wasn't the question, read it again.

lpuskas2w ago

Remember McEnroe’s antics. Sasha bounced the ball on average 10-12 times to be accurate. Who cares as long as he serves before 30 seconds ends. Every see how long it takes Cantlay to hit a golf ball. It’s a lot. Give the guy a break, he came back from adversity and kept his diabetes under control which is amazing for anyone.

matthew.johns3w ago

I think umpires need to be harsher on time violations for Zverev and today was the perfect example. Zverev did not get a time violation until the fourth set and therefore it had very little impact on the match. He should have probably had one in the first and then bigger consequences would have been at risk for Zverev!
