How do you feel about the rising number of influencers attending the US Open?
brook0103w ago
It’s bringing new audiences in which can only be good for the sport. It’s a tale as old as time that no one likes influencers ‘cheapening’ what people follow, music and films are having similar influxes and complaints, but it is what it is. If you’re too precious and protective then you risk putting off new demographics anyway

I was blessed to go to Wimbledon men's final this year. I didn't notice anything strange or different I Like Carlos but its like Samphras days. Can't enjoy predictable ganes/Slams
janegraham2919624w ago
Don't care, I've never noticed them Lol...... What do they do, thats so bad?
luggmike584w ago
The real tennis fans are priced out. Craig Tiley will do a great job
jonathan.gorrie4w ago
No one likes influencers but other that them being annoying at times, how is this a bad thing?
sfdabilene20064w ago
Tennis has never been so exciting in the last 4 years
lee.connor4w ago
Probably more entertaining watching the influencers prat about than anything that’s ever happened on a tennis court. More of it I say 😂😂
harveyleonard994w ago
Happening in most sports these days. Blame lies on those who consume their content. It’s a shame that their presence is seen as a needed boost for sports
thatfan4w ago
It's part of the modern game, people have to move with the times and the number of social influencers are growing. It's good for the sport, expands the reach of the game to new audiences.
martin.crawford4w ago
You certainly shouldn’t be rolling out the red carpet just because someone has a lot of followers. Not all influencer publicity is actually good for tennis
daviescallum423w ago
Yeah I agree, plus they're taking up valuable seats for actual tennis fans. Some of the videos I've seen of these influencers, if I lived in NY and got priced out of a ticket just to see them dancing about in the stands, my head would be on mars

I am not a big fan of it. I think the growing focus on influencers at events like the US Open risks taking away some of the original experience, atmosphere and authenticity of the sport. Of course, attracting new and younger audience is inportant, but I would rather see the focus remain on the players, the fans and the tennis itself.
kyle.archer4w ago
Every sporting event sees loads of influencers as someone in marketing thinks it will appeal to someone, somewhere (even when most people at those events have no idea who the 'influencers' are)
adnan.riaz4w ago
It sums up the modern landscape of sports. Hate it so much.
jameslloyd14.jl4w ago
To me this sort of thing has made me enjoy boxing/MMA less and it’d be a shame if tennis went down the same route. Suddenly it becomes about who’s there courtside and who’s filming what
freddie4w ago
Tennis needs a reboot and some new viewers, it’ll be good for the sport
adnan.riaz4w ago
It doesn’t feel authentic. People already hate influencers enough.
donaghcorby19974w ago
Anything that brings more attention to the sport can only be good!
adnan.riaz4w ago
Sure, but not when influencers hold a negative reputation with the wider public. Outside of social media, people do not like them.
dale.odonnell4w ago
Football is the same, sadly. They are imposters and nothing more. 🚮
adnan.riaz4w ago
Hate the impact that it’s done on football. Sky Sports is the biggest example of it with their coverage.
billy.meyers4w ago
Hate it. The World Cup final was the same and felt like it had the atmosphere of Soccer Aid It really is a genuine issue in sports nowadays. Not only are actual fans being priced out, but these influencers with little interest in the game are coming in en masse 👎

kilham.max4w ago
I’m not a fan to be honest. 100% they bring more eyes to the sport but it makes tennis feel more plastic, which I don’t love. Screams of Americanisation.
adnan.riaz4w ago
Plastic part is spot on. It brings plastic viewership rather than actual interest as well.
pranav.shahaney4w ago
I think tennis is not as popular amongst the youth as it was during the big three era or even before that. Having influencers in certainlh brings younger people to the event. At the same time, they should not be made front and centre of the promotions as that will have the opposite effect
lrandall12104w ago
I think it’s good for the younger generation but it doesn’t half make it look rather cringe
chillout4w ago
Tournaments do face a difficult balancing act. A big influx of influencer accreditation does help bring the sport to a younger, new demographic - but this can’t compromise the integrity of matches. But is it really asking too much for these influencers to keep it down - they need to realise that this kind of thing is about the game and players - NOT them!
camerondesc14w ago
Couldn't care less in all honesty. They aren't harming anyone.
james.brooke4w ago
That’s an easy one- Influencers anywhere are a net negative for society
jackdrury4w ago
It slowly starts taking away opportunities for proper fans to attend. It has been happening for years in other sports
johnverrall114w ago
It’s too late to stop that happening now
johnverrall114w ago
No issue with it personally. It brings more eyes on the sport. This is just modern day culture now!
getjeffrey4w ago
That's today.
tufidonna4w ago
I think it's good for tennis because it creates a buzz for spectators as well as players and encourages more people to attend this events. IOW creates excitement.
daviescallum424w ago
I don’t like the idea that tennis needs to change to fit this kind of demographic. The sport is what it is and that makes it unique, and it’s also growing massively with or without these influencers. If they want to come and post and add to the sport then so be it, but tennis shouldn’t cater to them at all
charlesjones4w ago
Exactly this. No harm in them being there but it shouldn’t be at the detriment of anything else
peter.lynch4w ago
Having seen it in person it’s quite the situation, only in New York 😅 but the US Open is playing up to it, so it clearly benefits them 💰
matthew.johns4w ago
I think if they're bringing a new audience to watch tennis then I'm all for it, but if they're just there to take pictures then I am not so much of a fan
george.patten4w ago
That’s the issue, I think a lot more are their to say they’ve been to the US Open rather than to A) enjoy the tennis or B) Or ‘influence’ others to start watching
george.patten4w ago
Depends if they’re interrupting the matches and ruining the experience for other fans. Can’t say a bunch of influencers doing TikTok dances during a Carlos Alcaraz match does anything for me, but each to their own.
