Do you think Novak Djokovic should now retire from tennis?

haricvasudevan2w ago

Think he should weigh his physical fitness with caution. Change parts of his game to withstand 5-set pressures. Three set is where he is comfortable today, he’s got enough gas in the tank to last . His joints will get invariable less stronger , not necessarily weaker.

I have been a huge Djokovic fan for many many years...I would also love to see him win one more slam but if it's a question of winning one more or staying healthy I'd rather see him retire. The Open def had a different vibe for me without him this year... I will miss watching him play for sure whenever that time comes...

luggmike584w ago

The only one to make that decision is Nole. I hate to see him struggling physically but as long as he wants to play and can get in to events. PLAY

daviescallum423w ago

This 100%. If he feels fit and is enjoying it, then let him be. It was pretty sad to see him so upset on court though. Hope he can get through whatever he's dealing with and return to his best in Aus

thatfan4w ago

Not yet, I'd love to see him finish his career on a high. One more big push which he is more than capable of

daviescallum423w ago

Where could that even happen though. I agree, but I don't see that big high coming anytime soon sadly.

smaheshsivan4w ago

He should retire before he gets injured badly coz of the competitive level is really high

dionsuttonnyc4w ago

I believe he should play as long he wishes. As long as he's happy & fans enjoying seeing him play. I believe Djokovic will only be happy at a level he deems acceptable. Watching the emotional crack against Navone suggests that level needs some adjusting. But no one should rush any player off the court. Denying them/us the pleasure.

denniswaynemr4w ago

Yes, when Djokovic stated after the match he "pretty much despised every moment that I spent on the court for that” is a clear indication he should retire. He threw up in his match at the Cincinnati Open, and now the US Open. That shows he has some type of medical problem that he should get resolved first. Please retire before things get worse.

My favorite all time player! He's brilliant and a genius however everything must come to an end it's life. We can't last forever and it appears he has worn that extraordinary body down. The stress has become too much. Bravo Nole, bravo again and again we salute you and have loved you and always will. Now find your other self!!!!

dale11124w ago

The weather im NYC was unbelievably humid. Tropical. So experiencing it personally, before the match I thought Djokovic would have difficulty. Doesn't mean he can't play well

jurgen9794w ago

Exhibitions a way to go.

visa.ravindran4w ago

I don't think there's another Slam in Djokovic. He is tired and not so fit anymore while younger rivals r physically n mentally trained for competition from their earliest years

jzent7604w ago

Djokovic has always played on his physical issues throughout his career including taking so long to serve as a distraction. Now he is getting his come uppances and should have retired at least 2 years ago because he will win nothing ever again.Never liked him as a person.

katicastv13w ago

I completely agree. He's not a nice person, just very good at pretending he is. Can't see him getting another slam and can't say I'm sorry.

mark.marston4w ago

Couldn't believe that when I woke up.... what went wrong? We know his level is still among the top five. Don't forget that semi-final against Felix only a month or two ago

markmarston4w ago

I’ve now read he was really struggling physically… understandable. Hope he recovers well and focuses on his health. Has has nothing to prove

antonymmartin844w ago

It depends doesn’t it? If he is still enjoying what he’s doing, traveling the world playing tennis then why not carry on? I can’t imagine that he’s enjoying not winning though. He’s the greatest of all time, exiting the US Open so early will hurt him badly

kilham.max4w ago

Utterly insane. Really did not see this coming. Definitely shouldn’t retire, but that 25th Slam is looking very unlikely…

george.patten4w ago

No I don’t think so. He made a Slam final this year! Will be very interesting to see how he approaches the next few months though

leeclarke05084w ago

No I don't think so. I'm not his biggest fan but this was a bit like watching a sick puppy. Do feel for him a bit.

callum_boyle4w ago

This one hurts. My favourite tennis player of all time and it’s painful to see his career ending this way. He’s nothing to be near another Grand Slam and I’d rather him go out while his stock is high and not see him play like this

tom.procter4w ago

It might be time. #25 looks a world away. Would hate to see him become a shadow of his former self

johnverrall114w ago

I don’t really know what he’s playing for at this point. He’s achieved everything possible. Is it really worth the grind because that was tough to watch someone so great look like that?

peter.lynch4w ago

Sad to see! No - he shouldn’t retire, but also no - he won’t win another Grand Slam at this rate ❌

camerondesc14w ago

The last two outings in Cincinnati and the US Open have made me think retirement for Novak is a lot closer than I thought. If he can't figure out this health issue then it might be over.

daviescallum424w ago

That was a tough watch. Sad to see such a legend in such a state. No chance he wins another slam now sadly, but retirement only if he can’t get past this health issue. Before that he at least remained competitive

matthew.johns4w ago

I don't think Djokovic should retire, but I am now more sure than ever that he won't win another major...
