Where do you stand on Florian Wirtz?

Labelled a flop by the media. Fairly? 🤔

flomaepioh5d ago

My Take is, why is it that Flo always on the spotlight? remember what Jurgen Klopp, the one making LFC believe again said, people who love and know the sport will agree that Flo performs alright! I would only take what Jurgen says as he is the one making me believe again.

james.brooke5d ago

I think plenty of people would argue that the spotlight actually hasn’t been bright enough on him given the fee we paid. I agree he’s doing ok, but it isn’t enough. He is inconsistent within games and in a wider sense too. As much as he’s been ok, how many times has he put together a genuinely good run of 5 games? Probably only once

keithsmyth3761w ago

About time we sold Wirtz while we can still get money for him, he is atrocious, I will personally buy the plane ticket back to Germany for him to join Bayern Munich, he's had plenty of time to redeem himself, also take Kerkez and Frimpong out the door with him in January.

keithsmyth3761w ago

Hopefully Barca or Madrid or Bayern Munich will put a bid in for Wirtz, l don't know who we should go in for a new number 10 maybe you would have a suggestion James, we've got some good class young talent coming in 2027, martinez, braughmans and some very good talent that are coming through that might be ready for the first team squad next season

james.brooke1w ago

Ryanair Keith? Or something a bit more upmarket? 😂

dale.odonnell1w ago

Total flop. Got a free ride from the press until the start of this season.

jonny1w ago

I can’t believe I am saying this, but I agree with Jamie Carragher’s verdict. He’s just not that good

james.brooke1w ago

Really, really want to see him do well but I’ve been losing patience with him for a while. It has to be a confidence issue, because there is no other reason for consistently failing to make simple passes and do the basics right. He works hard but is so sloppy on the ball. The best way to describe him as that he plays as if the scoreline doesn’t matter

james.brooke1w ago

It is a shame that Ekitike is injured as he was the one player who looked to be able to get more out of him. Maybe Barcola can. I don’t think he necessarily needs to justify the fee as that’s fairly impossible, he just has to make it irrelevant. There shouldn’t be questions about his place in the team. Maybe Jurgen can help us out

johnverrall111w ago

Still not exactly sure what his biggest strength is. Seems to lack the physicality to really make a success of himself in the Prem

james.brooke1w ago

This is a big part of the problem. Doesn’t excel at anything and isn’t quick enough to make up for the deficiencies

peter.lynch1w ago

Honestly one of the most frustrating situations ever! I thought he would learn that he doesn’t have as much time in the Prem, as well as the need to be more physical. But confidence is playing a part too, and I think if he gets a handful of goals and assists then he’ll start flying

freddie1w ago

I’m firmly in the camp of stick by him! 1. We have no one else. But 2. He hasn’t been as bad as people say. Yes, he needs to do more, but he has also been doing that just been unlucky without getting goals or assists

dakir.thanveer1w ago

Exactly! It's almost as if people are expecting flashy stuff from him because of the price tag. What he does best is getting into pockets of space, exploiting gaps between the lines and making chances from there, which he has been doing. Could be better yes, but things will click when the rest of the attack starts firing on all cylinders as well

aaditya.krishnamurthy1w ago

It’s always going to be difficult to turn around after a tough season - but he has to have a little grit between his teeth to grab the situation by the horns and turns things around - that doesn’t mean force it, but so the small stuff right all the time and the big passes and shots will comen

jordan.ellis1w ago

He’s got to improve, no doubt it. At the same time, so have a lot of people around him. He’s becoming the scapegoat for a team that has been underperforming sinc before he even arrived. This all started at the end of Slots title winning season.

eoin1w ago

Exactly this, has about the same G/A as Palmer and foden since the start of last season in what we can all agree was a terrible Liverpool side for the most part. And he would have SO MUCH MORE if out attackers werent so bad last season

lrandall12101w ago

I think he’s massively overrated. He’s no doubt got the massive talent, but he just doesn’t look up to it

jamie.theodosi1w ago

I think it’s just a typical example of the premier league showing it’s the best league in the world. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a good player because he hasn’t hit the same heights he did in the German league.

jameslloyd14.jl1w ago

He’s just not good, Liverpool are better off without him. How some of their fans are willing to talk down on Szoboszlai to defend him boggles the mind

dakir.thanveer1w ago

Honestly, I think Szoboszlai gets away with a lot. He is frustrating to watch at times. Szobo is better off at RB or in Wirtz's position

dakir.thanveer1w ago

Wirtz is still playing in a dysfunctional attack. I believe he will be a great asset when things start clicking under Iraola. Wirtz was never a flashy player even in the Bundesliga, so Prem fans are never going to be happy with him. Szoboszlai gets away with worse performances sometimes

josh.barker1w ago

He’s a fine player but the fee is the biggest problem. Sign him for £40m and nobody pays attention but he’ll never justify that price-tag

eoin1w ago

Does he have to justify 116m to not be a failure?

david.comerford1w ago

Nowhere near justified the fee but in Liverpool's defence, it was only a matter of time before a heavyweight team paid 100m+ for him. Sometimes transfers just don't work out. The fee was fair in the context of what he did in Germany

tom.procter1w ago

I was so excited to watch this guy in the PL. Sure he’s had good games here and there, but nowhere near as many as he should have for the money that was paid. Feels like he just doesn’t really suit the league

callum_boyle1w ago

You don’t become a bad player overnight but where he struggles is that he isn’t the main man. Even with the fee paid, Isak, VVD etc are all the bigger names. He gets far too much slack though and I think he will come good

dantowen819511w ago

He’s just not got it - doesn’t have the speed, either physically or mentally. Far too weak in both departments as well. Clearly a talented footballer but, then again, so was Sancho and Kagawa

dantowen819511w ago

A good player, not a premier league player

markmarston1w ago

He’s a good player and that’s where it ends. Probably a great player in a different league where different attributes are held in higher regard and more important. He’s a £40m player in the PL but probably a £100m player in Spain or Germany

george.patten1w ago

I think he’s a quality player that just isn’t suited to the prem. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to a Bayern or Barca and become one of the best in the world

seanfisher1w ago

For £116m (and yes, the fee matters.) he’s been terrible. Absolutely terrible. There’s no avoiding it 🤷🏻‍♂️

charlesjones1w ago

Even if he cost £30m you’d be saying he doesn’t look a bargain.

martin.crawford1w ago

Suffering from the price tag and just not being in a very functional team. Anyone who pretends not to see how much ability he has is being disingenuous

charlesjones1w ago

There are a few words I don’t think I can post on this platform that I’d use to describe Wirtz. Useless useless player.

eoin1w ago

Im sick of the narrative now. Yeah, he hasnt been good enough. Also, he arrived at Liverpool at the worst possible time with all that happened last year. If salah, gakpo, isak were in form, he would have had double digit assists in his first season. Its not good enough right now, no doubt. But we shouldnt let rival fans get to decide if Hes a flop.

charlesjones1w ago

Eoin. He’s crap. He’s not had a single good game since signing.

dancoombs1w ago

Non-Liverpool fan here, the issue with signing a player for huge fees like this is it’s almost impossible to meet expectations. Especially if coming from abroad, where fans/media have only seen clips/him at his best
