Sheffield United sign Matt Doherty after his Wolves exit... not sure on this tbh 😬

I think this will be an interesting year for Sheffield United and Wilder. I’m still not sure where they will end up at the end of next season. They have to be challenging for promotion. I’d like to see them and Wilder do well, but the Championship is going to be very very hard to get out of.

Could be one that contributes more than we’ll ever know behind the scenes but genuinely didn’t know he was still playing 😂😂 screams Sheffield signing though

It’s the sort of signing we needed tbh. Wilder speaks of ‘Culture Carriers’ a lot and we lost a load at the start of last season - McBurnie, Egan, Fleck, etc. Doherty will be good for the squad and good for Femi Seriki too. Experience and versatility can’t be underestimated at Championship level. We can’t all afford to spend £35m on random teenagers.

Exactly this. Doherty won't set the pulses racing. He might not even contribute a ton on the pitch, but those players and the manager will see his impact behind the scenes every day. I really rate this move

Nothing wrong with it as a signing. He’s still got something to offer even at 34

One last pay-day for Doherty before he retires next summer

Not what he used to be and what he used to be wasn’t amazing, but he’s a big name and can be used to set a positive culture in the dressing room for the Blades.

I think we often overlook how these kind of players add a lot of value to a proper promotion push. I reckon he's good for a year in the Championship

Spot on! Valuable asset on and off the pitch, look at Jordan Henderson for England

A typical Wilder signing. Old.

Blades fans must be bored of these type of deals now

Looked OK at times at Wolves on the right of a back three. Doesn’t have the legs to start regularly though and especially not at right-back

Good leader, no chance he can play the majority of games though

Good for the dressing room but i struggle to see how he improves the starting XI. Mind you, Wilder does love an experienced free agent - Pat Bamford has done well

He has the experience. But he’s been awful at Wolves for the last 2 years, struggles against any winger with pace

Interested to see what Blades fans actually think about this after seeing Lamptey go to QPR - surely he would have been a better option?
markmarston2mo ago
Yeah bit of a worry when QPR are showing more ambition than you

See who manages to play more than 10 Games next season
charlesjones2mo ago
He’s alright for championship level I guess.

He actually did well at centre-back for wolves when they had their crisis. Really, the value is in his experience rather than what he'll do on the pitch

Another player at the end of his career…. We need young and hungry players
