Sheffield United have announced the signing of Romelle Donovan... give us your immediate reaction Blades ⚔️

I like this. Whether he can emulate what Brooks did last season is another matter, but I like the approach of going for youth

jonny2mo ago

Don’t be so quick to write him off, Brentford tend to be good judges of talent and Donovan will be desperate to prove himself. Worth a go and if he plays a lot it will entice clubs in the Premier League to send loan players there in the future.

We need loans as we’re financially crippled again. We’re down £37m due to no parachutes, new owners don’t seem too fussed either on making big investments. He is a replacement for Brooks who we’ve just got £10m for but I’ve never heard of him so time will tell I guess. Wilder can be quite harsh with the young lads and he wanted experience, so 🤷‍♂️

Looks like the Brooks replacement then? And the club has used its links with Brentford (Andrews, Lester). But the state of football is a bit depressing when a team has to sell their own academy winger to keep afloat and have to replace them with a random PL youth player. Hopefully he’s decent

The decline is crazy, from promotion challengers to a kid with less than 10 appearances in the division

markmarston2mo ago

I think promotion winning squads have a blend of everything… yes Donovan isn’t a statement addition but he’ll know his place and be a good impact sub off the bench imo

Chong has an uncertain future, especially after a good World Cup. Donovan is highly rated by Brentford and I don't doubt their talent ID. A loan or two doesn't hurt. Just look at how much Vitek helped Bristol City last season! Shrewd addition imo

markmarston2mo ago

Totally agree Vatsal… I think your planting a seed for the future with loans as well. Say Blades go up, Donavon will likely want to return even if there’s interest from bigger clubs. Good business

charlesjones2mo ago

Seemed pretty average at Birmingham last season. Not sure I quite understand this one.

harveyleonard992mo ago

Hopefully he proves his worth and actually gets game time. Would be bad for his development if he gets frozen out while on loan, and that’s always a risk

jamie.brown822mo ago

Looks like an exciting winger, could prove to be an excellent addition!! 🔥

markmarston2mo ago

I think so Jamie… Wilder has a good eye for young talent too. Peck, Brooks and Arblaster have all developed well under him

chillout2mo ago

Is this a loan deal ? Why do blades need loans at this stage ?

markmarston2mo ago

I think loans have thier place. If it’s a unique market opportunity to sign a very very talented youngster on a temporary basis, you take it. I’d hope Sheff U have an agreement to make it permanent if he meets certain clauses
