Will Portsmouth fans have expected more from Eisner family ownership after nearly a decade ? Is 7 years in League 1 and 2 relegation threatened seasons in the Championship enough ? The Eisners appear great custodians of the club, but are they just too cautious ? Ipswich, Brentford, Coventry, Wrexham and Luton (kind of) kicked on. Why not Pompey ?

I don’t think slow and steady is the worst approach considering where they’ve been in the past.

Owners who are happy with their lot. Simple as that. If I was a Pompey fan, I’d want more

Portsmouth are about where they should be as a club. Hard to be demanding more, there’s some very wealthy clubs in the Championship

chillout4mo ago

Eisner is worth $3.8bn though !

harveyleonard994mo ago

It’s a tricky one. Everyone wants to shoot up to the prem fast and it would be great to see them back. But maybe trying to consolidate over the next few years is more important. Either way though, it’s hard to deny the current owners aren’t ideal

Having spent 12 seasons in League One/Two, I think Pompey have done very well to have two seasons of stability in the second tier… John Mousinho has done a great job! 💙

kyle.dimond4mo ago

Yeah be interesting to see whether this approach works if Mousinho leaves

chillout4mo ago

The ‘Stable One’?

Pompey are finally steady. That’s as much as they can ask for. Let’s not forget it’s not long ago they were in League Two with a points deduction.

I suppose every club’s circumstances are different, and plenty of owners have gambled and failed spectacularly. Pompey are at least in a healthier place than they’ve been previous years

chillout4mo ago

I get it - but I’m not sure threading water is enough. Maybe it’s time for the Eisners to recognise that new owners are needed if the club is to push to achieve more.

jordan.harris4mo ago

Given where Pompey have been, I don’t think cautious is a bad thing at all

They did kick on, the problem is it was 20 years ago. The teams you mentioned are not big clubs, neither are Portsmouth. Every dog has its day and Pompey’s was in the mid to late 2000s

chillout4mo ago

I guess it’s a question of degree - The clubs mentioned are or were in the Prem (ex Wrexham who went up 4 leagues in 5 years). The clubs aren’t big clubs, no, but they have enjoyed more success. Fans of these clubs will at least have had some time in the Promised Land.

josh.barker4mo ago

Agreed they just don’t have the money needed to spend at the top of the Champ now, and they don’t really have any big names to sell for 10-15m either to fund a big summer

matthew.johns4mo ago

Portsmouth are a tricky one. I think this season will be the real tell-tale sign as to the ambitions of the owners, as they need to now start pushing on from just surviving relegation in the Championship.

chillout4mo ago

What is realistic this coming season ?

jonny4mo ago

Owners clearly not doing enough when smaller clubs are getting promotions. One thing most of the clubs mentioned did was stick with a manager and back him, pretty simple plan to follow

freddie4mo ago

Sounds like they might be backing Mousinho this summer, if not he’s gone

dale.odonnell4mo ago

Unfortunately for Portsmouth fans, they are no strangers to hardship. They’ve been through a lot. The owners need to do more to take the leap other clubs have in that timeframe.

chillout4mo ago

From the outside, it kind of feels that the owners are fairly happy just ensuring the club is stable - which is worthy, but I’m not sure is enough.

gorriejonathan4mo ago

I think the next few years are about consolidating more than anything else. Oh, and about beating Saints…..

freddie4mo ago

Portsmouth are the definition of a sleeping giant! Owners aren’t doing enough and when much smaller teams are kicking on, it really highlights the issue! Won’t go anywhere with them in charge! Get them gone

brogan4mo ago

Always had a soft spot for Pompey and would love to see them climb the tables again. Provided the PL with some truly iconic goals through Matty Taylor alone
