Should Djokovic retire whatever happens in the Australian Open final and go out in a blaze of glory?

feliciano.lim576mo ago

If you talk about legacy and influence, it has to be Tiger Woods. He influenced millions of kids to take up golf where before golf is only played by oldies. In fact a lot of tennis players converted to golf, while Djokovic didnt influence golfers to convert to tennis!

A female player, Steffi Graf from Germany, held all four Grand Slam trophies at age 19 in 1988.

No

hadesmsc8mo ago

Why would someon retire when among top 3 players. Every tournament semi-final or final.

kyagrarocks8mo ago

Here, here

arshadkazmi78mo ago

Yes. I think he should retire because i can't see his continuous defeat. He is my fav and its time to announce retirement.

kyagrarocks8mo ago

Why? He made the final.

nyccarol038mo ago

Djokovic has been the GOAT for years. I secretly rooted for him even during covid when he was so childish. I think we should let him decide what he retires. And I hope he never does. He's so so athletic and great fun to

kyagrarocks8mo ago

Who's the soccer player still going at 42? Do they ask him every week?

peter.lynch8mo ago

Such a legend, but he has to retire at some point surely?! haha

30031958nowshu8mo ago

Sinner has to improve his shot selection. Need drop and volley at times of need.

rajan.mudumbai8mo ago

Djokovic is a gladiator and gladiators don't retire. They go down fighting to the end.

peter.lynch8mo ago

Love this!

taylorsykes758mo ago

Maybe we should ket Novak decide if you make the semifinals ALL the time, maybe he is not ready

26kerry098mo ago

Who cares. You either win or you lose. Age shouldn't be issue if you can still do it. Not a fan of his but unless injuries not a problem keep going till you cant.

brad86207b978mo ago

Why he's still up there with the best, thats like saying anyone seeded past 20 in the game should just find another job!

kyagrarocks8mo ago

Exactly what i was thinking. Do they interview the first round losers and ask if they are retiring?

portadelaide708mo ago

Novak should think about retirement as he's achieved everything in the sport and IS the Grand slam record holder for the men's game! He's equal with Margaret Court but that was another era and she's a woman. He's got the most Grand slam titles for men. He's been brilliant so retire near the top of his game.

docvcare8mo ago

.I absolutely adore Mary Jo Fernandez, but I hope to heck that she is wrong. I cannot stand Djokovic and he does not deserve to be in the final. He received a walk over and he was getting crushed by Musetti. There has to be some change in the rules to allow someone who lost two sets and what if obviously lost a third.

scott.parkin.labo8mo ago

Don't talk stupid!! Musetti would have lost in 5 due to injury if he didn't retire. So Djokovic would have won. What change do you propose then brains??

kamala.anuj8mo ago

Borg retired at 26 with 11 grandslams. Today, motivation to remain at the top is very high as compared to the old era. Partly, it is the unimaginable money today. Djokovic should retire regardless of the result. He will go with his head held very high, winning or losing. His record will remain for ever. I don't see anyone breaking or equalling his tally.

segesmundo.vieira8mo ago

No retirement.. He will keep giving some coaching to the upcoming athletes.. this Man is not just the GOAT. He's a Coach on Emotional intelligence!!! So the players need him with neet to keep witnessing the force of faith that this Humble champion has in him.

isargrund8mo ago

As much as Djokovic hopes and maye his supporters too, there is no way that a 40 year old will beat a 22 year old in a 5 set tennis match, no 25th for Novak, I agree with others time for him to retire gracefully what has he got to prove?

liam.mcmillen8mo ago

I thought the same about Djokovic beating Sinner! Anything can happen...

krishnagm20028mo ago

Yes.Novak Djokovic has proved beyond ambiguity that he is the most successful player ever.He achieved many records which will not be broken for several years to come.Having achieved such a phenomenal success his fans won't like the results of loosing.Except olympic gold in 2024, Djokovic is unable to maintain the same form and outstanding success of 2023.

chand61geeth8mo ago

Djoko is a fighter and time and again has lived up to it. So let him be his judge. Social media should refrain from such discussions...Let him enjoy as long as he can. If anyone is not interested then enjoy other alternates. Deal.....

jpeaches288mo ago

OH NOOOO. Nole needs #24 so he must keep playing out '26. His legacy in this sport is sealed but 24 is a personal persuit.

jpeaches288mo ago

Sorry I meant #25

jordansview8mo ago

No. He just proved sgain that when he's playing his best he can beat Alcaraz and Sinner. So if he can beat the two best players in the world, why retire now? Let him retire when he really can't beat these guys. Ot if he wants to go out on top with a couple more grand slams. Right now he's still playing at an amazing level.

liam.mcmillen8mo ago

It would be pretty iconic though wouldn't it?

camerondesc18mo ago

Absolutely not! The game is better with him around.

daviescallum428mo ago

Imagine if he just won the final and announced his retirement on the spot in his champions speech. Mic drop!

johnverrall118mo ago

Surely not. I think that was the most encouraging performances in two years that Novak can still compete. He deserves to be out there for a bit longer yet, whatever way the final goes!

george.patten8mo ago

If he wins, yes. If not, no. He deserves to go out with a title, and a big one!

liam.mcmillen8mo ago

It would be the most incredible spectacle in tennis if he retires after winning number 25, but I can't see it happening
