Honest opinion... will Michael Carrick survive the 2026/27 season at United?
We want Michael Carrick to SUCCEED at Man Utd - but the season has started badly...

Five games in people. I'm as disappointed as anyone with the start. But for goodness sake get of his back all you keyboard warriors and give the man a go at it. Swapping and changing has been to our detriment in the past. Ease up on the panic mode.

In game management is part of why he gets paid the big bucks. He is bottling the in game decisions, and the results prove it. Yes it is easy to call it from a computer keyboard, but his total lack of bottle is costing the team. We see the issues, and MC must see them too. If he continues to be too passive it will cost him his job. We ALL want MC to survive!

So what reason should calm us down? On paper United had the easiest start of all of the big 6. Yet, we have made a mess if it. This alone would not worry me. The style or lack there of, along with the performances def has alarm bells ringing. Football is massive business and we cannot wait until it is too late for the CL.
luksricky1w ago
Yes, I have belief in him. Let in Team be no blame Game.
epi2media1w ago
He is suffering from what ALL other managers faced at Utd after Fergi- Player Power. Managers appear unable to affect in-game player behaviour. Players play exactly the same way every game regardless - no reaction or passion. 6 games since Hull -No change.Other teams celebrate even tuckles!-rallying fans with real gusto! All I can see is a P45 + £10m to MC.
stephenjholmes11w ago
I agree to an extent, but MC could have made the changes in personnel much quicker. His first substitution was after 78 minutes. It should have been done 10 minutes into 2nd half at the latest. Then to bring on Zirkzee was bizarre. He has done NOTHING to justify selection, whilst Lacey was ignored. Same as City. Changes should have been made at 1/2 time.

Want him to succeed, but unfortunately can see him sacked around the January window…
dancoombs1w ago
I think if he can get to January he might be fine - it’s the months before that I’m worried about
dale.odonnell1w ago
It’s looking bleak. Carrick looked completely defeated after the Brighton defeat and I can’t help but feel having the job full time is weighing down heavily on him. I say that hoping he can turn things around and look back on this as a bump in the road. He will be demanding better not just from his players, but himself. I’ve no doubt about that.
stephenjholmes11w ago
I really don't think MC is the problem. He is being instructed from above. I actually wouldn't be surprised if that has been the case with Ten-Haag also. He bought some overpriced dross, but it was all sanctioned by the "money-men".
theworm1w ago
He needs to be flexible upfront I think our forwards aren't used fairly
stephenjholmes11w ago
I seriously feel that he is being told to use Zirkzee to try and up his value. Unfortunately you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. The likes of Wilcox have made MASSIVE recruitment errors, and now MC is having to use them to save the boys upstairs!
thetruthpersonified1w ago
Will replacing MC solve all the issues, no. Could it be worse than we are experiencing, unlikely. The question really is, if MC survives now, does anyone genuinely see a future where he turns it round and gains our trust? All down to what does the club want? They seem to just be happy with a Europe, ideally CL. At present, that CL spot is at risk!
stephenjholmes11w ago
Even Europe is "pie in the sky" with what is going on at the moment. MC must have his hands tied. There is no way that a Manchester United season ticket holder would do what he is currently doing without someone else pulling the strings "upstairs"
dale.odonnell1w ago
He got us out of a mess before to secure Champions League qualification. No certain fix out there. I’m seeing people talk about Eddie Howe. This can’t be the real world… 🤔
wajulanre91w ago
Sacking him won't solve united problem
dancoombs1w ago
Not right now, it lets the players off the hook far too easily
jonny1w ago
I would like him to, but his refusal to admit the problems gives me no hope he will make the necessary changes. Unfortunately his days are numbered, if the club were decisive, this is the perfect time to make a change. Have to separate the man from the coach
thetruthpersonified1w ago
Controversial comment inbound. I do not want MC to survive. I do not believe in him and it sets a bad precedent that one former player did ok, let's get another. Who next, Rooney, Cleveley, Giggs, RVP, get RVN back? While a poisoned chalice, RVN showed what a limited coaching CV can achieve at Leicester. Club toxic, but needs experienced hands.
plattysared51w ago
He's running out of time already, 5 games in & the League has gone & now Champions League Qualification is already looking unlikely, so he needs to take the next few weeks to change it,drop Rashford for starters 🤔
jonny1w ago
A loss to Spurs would be fatal
mufcgrw19771w ago
Sadly no, given current performances, just have a feeling United will still have. A good season whoever is in charge
stephenjholmes11w ago
You must of made some gramatical errors there surely? I don't see United being relegated, but if nothing changes, kiss goodbye to any form of European football next season.
jonny1w ago
Yeah, we’re the worst coached side in the league which is hard to recover from. A change now would keep us in the UCL race, waiting a few months might not
geldroper1w ago
Not if we keep coaching and playing this way.
stephenjholmes11w ago
If Michael wants to survive, he needs to grow a pair. We can all see the issues, and it worked last season when he started. If he carries on with his cowardly decision making, he won't last until the end of November.
jonny1w ago
Well said, needs to be braver and drop underperforming players, use the youth and also ditch the system he’s trying
eoin1w ago
Hell be gone by january
barryroberts721w ago
If he carries on like this and not putting players on in form i will be surprised if he hasn't gone by Christmas, and i thought after last season i wouldn't be saying that, but it's the PL and it can be cruel plus it's a results business and if we can't beat Fulham, how are we expected to beat Spurs after the break playing walking football.
kevanpower81w ago
It's only 5 games in but will have to improve quality and quickly . He had a good start but needs that back again soon
dancoombs1w ago
Spurs (h), Atletico (a), Leeds (a), Como (a), Bournemouth (h), Chelsea (a) I can’t say I am optimistic about that run of fixtures, sadly. It’s just about getting through it as unscathed as possible, I don’t see us excelling through that
markmarston1w ago
Given United’s track record… it would be a surprise if he didn’t. They give managers more time than most. INEOS went above and beyond for Amorim. Most would’ve been sacked months and months before he left
