← Talk Lincoln City

Lincoln City fans will still be pinching themselves after last season’s brilliant campaign, but they will be gutted to have lost Michael Skubala. Staying in the Championship has got to be priority Number One now - is that a realistic prospect for next season ?

kyle.dimond3mo ago

Id usually doubt them staying up but I don’t know, just got a feeling. Keep that momentum going from the promotion and I think they might scrape it

johnverrall113mo ago

They won’t stay up. They overpowered teams in L1 but won’t be able to be the bully boys physically in the Championship. Skubala going is also a major blow. I think they’ll be shocked by the step up in quality and ultimately go straight back down

Backs against the wall job for Lincoln next season.

Need to keep that core of players together. Moylan in particular feels ready to explode. But he was also their top scorer last season with 11. Remains to be seen if they’ve got enough reliable finishers in the squad

Such a well run club, I don’t think they’ll be at risk. Should be aiming for top half given some of the leaps we have seen from recent promoted sides

Losing Skubala is obviously hard but good clubs have a plan in place and appointing Cohen and Shaw, who were part of his backroom staff is shrewd. Not much will change in terms of style and Cohen has his Forest contacts to get some good loanees in. Lincoln will surprise a few. A great city for an away day too

Lincoln had the 17/18th lowest wage bill in L1 last season according to their chief executive. That type of spending is going to get you dominated in the Championship. It’s not all about money, but there’s a reason 99% of the teams that do well in the division are all among the highest spenders. Going to be a rough season without a big cash injection

They’ve rolled the dice by promoting internally. Having said that, just look at the success Brentford have had with Andrews. Sometimes continuity far outweighs experience. One thing we do know is that the style won’t change much… they had the least amount of possession in L1 last term showing how comfortable they are off the ball. Good sign going into Champ

kyle.dimond3mo ago

The Brentford-Andrews appointment just changes how I think about these scenarios in general. Wrote them off and it couldn’t be further from the truth

jamesshearman233mo ago

I’d be very surprised if they didn’t go down tbh. Losing Skubala has made an already difficult task almost impossible

george.patten3mo ago

Agreed - can’t imagine them staying up

Don't sleep on Chris Cohen. A top coach and this is his big opportunity. Will naturally be tough as they've not been in this division in the modern era but a bit of continuity could actually help them.

dantowen819513mo ago

He was seen as a proper leader at Forest wasn’t hen

As a Tottenham fan I’d just like to wish Lincoln supporters the best and hope they enjoy their trip to West Ham 🤣

It’s going to be incredibly hard after losing Skubala. Not sure on the double head coach system they’ve gone for, but I guess it worked with the Cowley Brothers when they were there.

jamie.theodosi3mo ago

Always happy to see new teams in the championship, but losing Skubala is huge. That will be their most important bit of business this summer. If they can make the correct replacement, someone who is experienced in keeping teams in this league, then they could just about do it.

dantowen819513mo ago

It’s so frustrating that he left. Even as a neutral. Nothing saddens me more than someone jumping ship just when a club is on the up

jordan.harris3mo ago

Skubala did such a phenomenal job it’s going to so difficult

will.butcher3mo ago

Without Skubala, it’s a massive if. Big investment is needed but losing Skubala is going to hit the squad hard, a squad he built.

jameslloyd14.jl3mo ago

Losing Skubala is a huge blow but every Lincoln fan would’ve snapped your hand off for Championship football a year ago. And let’s not forget both Cohen and Shaw played an integral role in getting promoted. Survival has to be the priority and it’s realistic as long as they recruit smartly and keep the momentum of last season going
