How much will Aston Martin's highly-anticipated upgrades in Hungary reduce their deficit to the top?

Fernando Alonso still expects it to be "difficult" to reach Q2 in Budapest

I expect some progress, but not much. They have not even practiced with this B spec car, and the Honda PU still sucks. They should be closer to Cadillac. That is a sad statement.

I hate to agree with you because I'd love to see them make some progress, but I agree that I'm not expecting much change! I reckon it will still be a fight with the Cadillac's for the back spots on the grid!

I sincerely doubt that AMR can get much out of the B spec car without getting a new Honda PU. Maybe 0.1 second improvement. Not enough to make Alonso happy.

Ooof that is a biiiig gap - they're lucky to even qualify in the first place. I can't see the 'B-spec' AMR26 lifting them up from the back of the grid in any scenario tbh.

Obviously, Aston Martin's deficit was enlarged by Spa being the longest circuit on the calendar. But they are still regularly more than two seconds away from the Q2 positions. So, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll may merely have to hope that their upgrades move Aston Martin ahead of Cadillac...

It's not reassuring that Alonso is not expecting much improvement next weekend! Hopefully after the summer break they can start to peel themselves off the bottom two grid spots!
