Is MotoGP selling its soul by leaving Phillip Island?

mpreiss821mo ago

I just cannot believe Phillip Island is not going to be on the rotation anymore, whatever the reasons it's a shame as most all the riders and fans think it's one of the best tracks on the rotation.

Street circuits maybe nice for F1, but how can they be made safe enough for MotoGP? Besides Melbourne is only 90 minutes from Philip Island, so what's the rub? Everything and everyone fly into Melbourne, and they have a motorcycle ride to the Island from Melbourne. It's become all about the money now that Liberty Media is involved.

They never had a soul.

Unfortunately South Australia has a grub of a government who is throwing a lot of public money at it without disclosing how much and ripping up more public parklands and old trees. I love MotoGP but not at this cost when we have PI and the Bend. Bloody clowns

Were supposed to believe you care about the trees... Ok. Its leaving PI cause crowds to 35,000 arent cutting it. Neither is the riders sharing toilets with the public. Its not the 1970's anymore.

MotoGP doesn't have a "soul". This (leaving Phillip Island), basically is about one thing: M.O.N.E.Y. (i.e.; greed). This deal was done way before we found out about it.

Unfortunately money talks and the Moto Gp will be just an advertising tool . As for the first race I think it was the most boring race I’ve seen in a long time, which is a shame…..🇦🇺🇦🇺😀😀

Circuits like Phillip Island are the backbone of what MotoGP is today. If other iconic race tracks suffer the same fate in the future, then there will be a real problem.

kyle.archer7mo ago

It could prove to be the start of MotoGP selling its soul in the same way that F1 has by pursuing high-paying street tracks at the expense of the iconic circuits that fans (and riders/drivers) love
