Baresi is unfortunately remembered for his penalty miss at World Cup ‘94 - but what really stood out was how he locked up Romario in the Final, masterclass in defending

What an unreal player he was. 💔😭

3 European Cups/Champions Leagues with AC Milan 6 Serie A titles with AC Milan 1 World Cup win (Italy) Spent his entire career (20 years) with AC Milan Played alongside Maldini in central defence and that was an awesome partnership. Baresi was something special and was amazing to watch. He will be missed by everyone lucky to have watched him play.

As big a legend as you could hope for - truly transformative in football. That Milan retired his no 6 shirt in 1997 is about as big a compliment as you can find

No age at all. North of 700 appearances, a true legend

Too young to have seen him play, but every defender you admire ends up being measured against Baresi. RIP

My age - life is so fragile.

So young! One of those players who it doesn’t matter if you saw him or not, you know just how good he was. An icon. RIP

Terrible news to wake up to this morning. One of the all time greats

Recently Keegan, and now Baresi. A huge shame for football, and those who knew them well 🙏

Never seen him play as was before my time, but family have always discussed him like he was one of the best ever. Rest in peace, Franco.

Too young to have seen him play but the way the greats talk about him says so much, what a legend
