The USMNT made the last 16 on home soil. What's the minimum acceptable return for Pochettino in 2030?

There's work to be done 😅

Poch has done a great job there but four years is a long time in football and I don’t even think he’ll be there for the next World Cup: surely there’s a release clause that a club will trigger by then

It's hard to say before you know what shape the squad is in. I guess you just need to see progress and a direction, even though it sounds cliché. They're still at least two or three cycles away from being a serious contender

Hard to say at the moment considering how far away the next World Cup is BUT one thing I do know is that the US absolutely have to overhaul their youth system Having to pay to play effectively blacklists those who are probably the likeliest to become stars - the hungry players from poor backgrounds wanting to help their families. Has to change 👎

Round of 16 would be success

markmarston2mo ago

Poch did a great job, it’s coup keeping him

Depends which players come and go. You don’t know what’s around the corner. In four years time the next Yamal may be American.

dancoombs2mo ago

I like the odds that he won’t be…

freddie2mo ago

They need to get quarters or semis but don’t think they have enough even tho he’s a quality manager

seanfisher2mo ago

Tbh I thought they were really fun to watch under Poch.. but they have to realise where they stand in international terms. RO16 was an overachievement.. if they get out the groups that’s something to be proud of

josh.barker2mo ago

They can’t expect anything better. They just aren’t a good team

dakir.thanveer2mo ago

Yeah, R16 is their level right now. Anything beyond is a bonus. The MLS still has some way to go but it's proving to be a great foundation to develop talent, so that's great

jamesshearman232mo ago

Anything less than the QFs will mean that Pochettino has failed

jonny2mo ago

Probably the exact same would be acceptable? They’re not a good team and without home advantage they’ll do well to even qualify

jackgallagher2mo ago

QFs are realistic, just can't see them ever doing much better than that

The way US fans sometimes speak, you would think anything but the semis is a disaster. Being realistic, the round of 16 is their level. That said, the growing popularity of the sport means more special talent should be coming through in the near future, just not by 2030.
