Infantino wants to trade a World Cup final for loyalty — is it time for football to leave FIFA behind?

The FIFA president has reportedly offered the final to Morocco in exchange for backing 😳

kyle.dimond1mo ago

I would be very fine with that. Infantino is awful but I imagine there are plenty of other similar people lining up behind him to take his spot. Get rid.

Infantino is what happens when someone doesn’t get told ‘no’ for a long time FIFA has been getting in its own way for as long as I’ve been alive! I’d like Ceferin to get Infantino’s job ideally, or get someone like Maldini in there

kyle.archer1mo ago

A UEFA-led global Nations League would just be like an international version of the Super League, surely? More control and money due to not liking how the other tournament is being run (and by whom)

matthew.johns1mo ago

I think Infantino is the biggest issue here, he needs to go or nothing with really change!

charlesjones1mo ago

What does it look like if everyone splits? An alternative would be great but I don’t see how it ends up being any different

badger.prodder1mo ago

Nothing is ever different. The wheel revolves whilst others try to find away to reinvent it

chillout1mo ago

Eddie Howe for President!

johnverrall111mo ago

If UEFA does breakaway FIFA is dead but id rather keep football united. The only way to do that now is for Infantino to go

dancoombs1mo ago

Until I see a proposal of what football would look like without FIFA, I can’t back leaving FIFA. I think it just creates more issues. FIFA just needs new people running it, and a focus on sport not profit

badger.prodder1mo ago

There will not be. Ask yourself, where did FIFA come from. A bit like UEFA and Eurovision where did they suddenly come from

billy.meyers1mo ago

Ideally it would just be Infantino but it’s clear to see now that FIFA is rotten to the core, it’s not just a one-man band For the sake of football’s future, yes - football must exile FIFA from the community. Only if they change their ways should they be welcomed back but that may take years now they’ve broken people’s trust…

martin.crawford1mo ago

I don’t think FIFA’s existence in itself is the problem. There’s plenty of good people there - those at the top have just consistently been the worst. Hopefully the current global rejection of Infantino is the beginning of a trend where they’re properly held to account. A total collapse doesn’t really help anybody (except UEFA)

badger.prodder1mo ago

Where does the problem for a non profit making organisation start. What we are seeing is how money, not people is controlling everything. Infantino believes he has the brief to introduce football to the world Unfortunately we Brits did it 150 years ago.

harveyleonard991mo ago

If it comes to that, yes. But is it too much to ask for Infantino to be replaced by someone who cares more about football than lining his own pockets? Is that a deluded fantasy?

jonathan.gorrie1mo ago

Would love it but UEFA are hardly the good guys either 🤣

donaghcorby19971mo ago

I’d personally love to be free of FIFA!

chillout1mo ago

I think it’s time for UEFA to breakaway - and allow anyone else to join them. I can see the rise of a global Nations League, and the demise of the World Cup.

jamesshearman232mo ago

You’ve got to laugh. One last throw at the dice before he gets kicked out 😂

badger.prodder2mo ago

However, the American's have just realised what a cash cow football is. No doubt like everything they touch 'green will be the colour, global financial control, will be the game' is Infantino victim of a MAGA power grab

badger.prodder2mo ago

Cricket?

jordan.harris2mo ago

I don’t have faith in whatever comes next tbh. But the sooner Infantino is gone the better

eoin2mo ago

Sickening to see how easily the sport can be manipulated by money and power. '2030 world cup, brought to you by Gatorade' or some shhh

brianhoneill602mo ago

👀u could've outt that act4 Vetter

dzzt5t44m82mo ago

And that’s why Britain has only hosted 1 single tournament in nearly 100 years. Absolute bias and a disgrace!

jonathan.gorrie1mo ago

How good would a World Cup be here?! The stuff of dreams

?

fan2mo ago

eoin2mo ago
