Is Pedro Acosta already in the alien tier of MotoGP riders? 👽

tihemme1w ago

First off - full acknowledgment, Pedro ran one hell of a race. But easy does it on the designation. He’s on home soil where he has most track experience, on a bike that weirdly suits him alone. He still needs to mature through trial and error. Give him a year on a new bike under Marc’s mentorship, and revisit the question. My bet? He will be. But not yet.

Yup. Sounds legit. Only, I don't think Marc will be mentoring him. He doesn't mentor people in his own garage. Maybe in another championship like Quiles or earlier Moreira. But not a standing rival. He keeps a great relationship though. Like with Pecco.

I'm not sure the bike especially suits him, I just think he makes it look that way

He is a very special rider who will push Marc to his limit and beyond next year. His challenger when he is King will be Quiles

david.comerford1w ago

Good shout, that could end up being the next great rivalry

Look, I'm a huge fan of Acosta's and I think he is the future of the sport... But 'Alien' is a distinction that has to be earned. Acosta just hasn't earned that yet. We've seen how the KTM's mechanical weakness has HURT him this season. I have no doubt he will be one, but that monicker has to be earned.

tihemme1w ago

Agreed. He’ll get there.

pixantz61w ago

Agreed. Whats the hurry? There was a time when Aldeguer almost beat Marc last year in a race, Viñales' 37 points in COTA2023 on an Aprillia, Binder won in the rain on slicks, Zarco won for France after 41 years, Rins won the only race for Honda in '22, how many "Aliens" should we count? I think an "Alien" badge needs an era of gob-smacking historic feats!

Anyone who refuses to rank him that highly will change their mind when they see him on a Ducati

pixantz61w ago

My worry is not how high we're ranking Pedro, it's how high we're ranking the floundering Ducati. They're seeming to be quite stagnant of late.
