How would you solve the tennis injury crisis?

mvsells5d ago

Reduce the schedule increase the off season by a month

kelliewood113mo ago

Less matches, simples!!

mattscottrobb7mo ago

Using the same tennis ball/brand. 3 surfaces, 3 balls so players aren't needing to adapt week in week out. Constant changes in balls and surfaces greatly contributing to injuries, as well as not enough breaks thru the year. Off seasons too short. Simple.

Just reading the article about Jess Pegula's new role and the WTA chair *now* feeling the issue needs addressing — how many years have athletes been concerned? Has anyone *not* seen the phenomenal spate of injuries, emotional distress and burnout in the last two years? Only lip service is given to these issues while the pressure cooker continues. Until...

...it starts to affect the WTA itself financially (like top seeds not turning up, ticket sales declining) — only then will there be meaningful action. Until then it will be lip service and toothless fancy committee meetings which further delay actual action. Kind of like the world climate summits, mostly for show. We know what needs to be done.

lol all this complaining. My favorites almost never retire. Amanda last week. the off season is STILL THERE. Too many players choose extra money/fame instead. that's their right but there are consequences. the schedule is FINE. It is not much bigger than it was 5 or even 10 years ago. Serena won 11 tournaments in 2013...,FIGURE IT OUT WEENIES.

One of the main problems is the poor quality of the balls. They are heavy and fluffing up too quickly and losing their pressure. Players are getting injured trying to generate enough pace. Also, hardcourts are very tough on the body.

matthew.johns7mo ago

Daniil Medvedev certainly agrees with you!

cheftjc7mo ago

The tennis season is. Too long also requiring the top players to play in small tournaments. Get rid of the two week WTA&PTA 1000’s tournaments

archerpaula288mo ago

If more top players adopt Saba's stance and refuse to play (boycott) certain tournaments despite the fines, it will hurt the pockets of the organisers and the WTA/ATP may be forced to rethink the too heavy schedule.

elaine_james68mo ago

Less heavy workout all the time especially just before a match...less strain on the body ! Just warm up before a match! No need for all the running & and the band work ! 🤷‍♀️

I completely agree with George. Change the rankings, make the schedule more flexible

peter.lynch8mo ago

Schedule is simply far too packed, but how about a longer offseason? Season literally just finished and we're already back!!

sue7mo ago

There needs to be a proper off-season, at least a month. Gasp! A month without tennis for spectators! ...if that's such a problem they could get creative and have NextGen tennis events during the general off-season, and then the NextGen off-season offset with that, for example.

liam.mcmillen8mo ago

Defending rankings points should be a thing of the past as should mandatory tournaments.

matthew.johns8mo ago

Something needs to be done about the schedule, tennis will only be damaged in the long run by the number of tournaments players are required to play...

george.patten8mo ago

Maybe the rankings need a re-think? Someone like Taylor Fritz shouldn't be playing through injury because he's worried about points. Might be confusing at first, but changing the way Protected Rankings work could help things...
