Junior Tchamedu has only started four games for Stoke since suffering a knee problem at AFCON in January. Finally back fit, we’re set to lose him to Cameroon for three weeks later this month… How much power should clubs have to block players from going on international duty? 🌍

I think they should have little power in this respect. However, the schedules need to be aligned so this sort of situation is prevented in future…

It anything happens to Tchamedu during the international break both Mark Robins and everyone involved with Stoke has every right to be unhappy. However, it is tricky to see how a rule could be introduced to prevent this as it’s such a case by case situation

Yh that’s the issue isn’t it. Struggle to think of a way you can introduce a fair rule across the board. Maybe a minutes restriction for players returning from injury that go away for internationals? Could be a compromise I guess

Stoke pay his wages, and if he’s only just back fit, he shouldn’t be risked for either club or country. Joke if he’s been allowed to go, and an unwise decision from all involved. Can can afford to miss one international break

Think it’s out of our hands that’s the issue. If the games are scheduled in an official international break there isn’t anything we can do. I personally think that shouldn’t be the case. As you say, we’re paying his wages, have been fronting the bill for his recovery, etc.
