A big problem Southampton will face is that everyone is uber-motivated to beat them after the controversy of last season. Can the players handle being mocked by opposition fans every week? And will Eckert’s presence prove to be a hindrance in the end?

Yeah I don’t think making the playoffs will be a problem unless they lose Larin to injury. But I don’t think they have the quality to compete with West Ham and Wolves

Hangover from last season is going to be difficult to overcome. Loss of Shea Charles is massive and if they sell THB, their chances of automatic promotion are up in smoke. 4th/5th for me

Shocked by that result yday… Watford are being tipped by many to go down, so that’s a really poor result. Have to remember it’s only one game but it did make me think… is Tonda going to have that same magic this year? Have his ways be lost on the players? Is his head in it? Will it be rocky until the FA make their decision? More questions thanks answers atm

I watched the first game and would not be panicking just yet. Still fancy them to push for the play offs, even with the point deduction

They don’t make the play-offs. The spygate scandal throws everything off and THB probably leaving and Charles gone are the two biggest blows to the side

I think 4th-6th… there’s so many big boys in the championship this season and Southampton are obviously wrestling with a points deduction and the whole drama of last season

A lot depends on the overhang from last season. It must be soul-destroying for the players to go through a long season and make the playoff final, only to be penalised and have to start again this season - with a 4 point deduction penalty. Having said that, it’s 3 through 8 for the playoff places this season - I definitely see them there come season’s end.

I think 3rd. Points deduction means will just miss out on autos I reckon - even after that terrible performance opening day. Then win the play-offs, that’s the best way to go up anyway!
