A tough old night in Lisbon against Benfica 😒 Give us at least ONE positive heading into Sunday 👇
6-1 defeat is the joint-heaviest in our European history

The goal was genuine quality. Arguably the goal of the game!

Wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Barcelona compilation that one

It’s basically what I expected, we’re in for a long season of looking back on what could have been last season

In terms of a positive for Sunday, they’re at home so they have the backing of the support. However, the pressure is on them to win more than ever, especially as Dundee United were good value for their point against Rangers

Can’t take any positives from that. Don’t think anyone expected them to win, but this once again shows how big a miss McInnes and Shankland will be.

Hearts were just happy to be there and I don’t think it’s a fair reflection of where they are. However, losing their manager and captain will be a bitter pill to swallow. Let’s see if the Jamestown Analytics recruitment can help them ride this wave

It can’t get any worse, surely! That has to be a positive. Unfortunately that is the price you pay for having good players when you’re not one of the bigger clubs, it could be a difficult season ahead for Hearts…

One positive? Erm. At least they won’t have to play Benfica again at the weekend? No way to wrap this into something positive

Positive heading into Sunday, not from Benfica!

Spittal in a two-man midfield away against Benfica was borderline suicidal. Think Vrancken would be best off fast-tracking the new guys instead of starting last season’s back-ups A positive is that they’re back at Tynecastle on Sunday, having not lost in the league there last season. United won’t be easy though

It wasn’t double figures. Early days but they’ve regressed massively (losing key figures will). Jamestown model is good on paper but signing players from York City isn’t gonna bolster your squad. Not replaced leaders like Devlin and Shankland. And to think yous lot thought you could compete with Celtic 😎

Did anyone expect anything different? Unfortunately one of those you just have to accept the gulf in class

The only positive I can think of is that they won’t have to play Benfica again this coming season. Naive tactics, penalty gifts and spent a lot of time last night chasing shadows. I doubt Hearts fans will take much comfort from all this.

I don’t think the defence can play as badly, and Renaud looks like he could be forcing his way in
