What would your advice be to Gable Steveson after UFC 331?

Sean Sharaf knocked out the Olympic gold medalist in 12 seconds.

Gable Glass-Chin should stick to rolling and tumbling... stand-up fighting is for the tough guys. Jon was not a good influence for him, dragged him into the deep end way too fast. And the fact that his training wasn't very sparring intensive was a terrible strategy. He should have been focusing not on his wrestling.

Take no fights. Stop training with Jon Jones. Train with DC. Gable and DC are the same fighter, same build, same skill set, should fight the same way. Not like Jon Jones.

Get rid of Jon Jones. Unless you're into coke, steroids, gun offences and wife beating.

I am sure he is down for beating up some girls, and luckily for him they don't punch as hard as men. I bet Rowsy could K.O. him.

Find some humility

Find a loophole

WRESTLE. Ben Askren never threw a punch his whole career and he was a multiple time world champion unbeaten for years. Brock Lesnar couldn’t box to save his life! Just take these big lumps down early and batter em from there.

I posted after his last fight, that whilst impressive he tends to leave an opening to be KO'd. Just didn't think it would happen in 12 seconds to a lower tier fighter. He is short and so is his reach. You need to protect yourself.

Yeah, there were warning signs in that UFC debut. Still, Sean Sharaf seemed like a lay up. To get KO'd like that by him is wild.

This is the problem with learning your craft in the UFC. Make reoccurring mistakes and you end up learning the hard way. It’s too late to go back to regionals, which would be my advice. I guess it’s just the standard regroup

harvey.leonard2w ago

People lose early in their careers, so I won't write him off. But now we can stop this talk of him steamrolling his way to the title in quick time

jamie.theodosi2w ago

It’s genuinely such a damaging loss. Yes he’s only 26 but he’s just lost to someone who was a loss away from being cut. He clearly isn’t ready to face any decent level of competition. This was a lay up for him and he airballed.

esmagicman2w ago

After working on his sportsmanship for running out of the cage early, he should remember that the only reason he had any hype was for his wrestling pedigree and stick to that in the cage. These wrestlers get one knockout and forget what got them to the dance.

harvey.leonard2w ago

It's surprising Jon Jones let him get so caught up in striking. Should have been telling him the whole way not to get obsessed after KO'ing low-level guys

jordan.ellis2w ago

Great point. I expect him to shoot immediately in his next fight.

He got much too cocky and got taught a valuable lesson. Now he needs to be taught to stand in there like a man and let your opponent get his hand raised. That showed his true character. Not a fan of bad losers.

jamie.theodosi1w ago

Fair point. But Andy Foster the head of the CSAC did defend that saying that there is no need for a knocked out fighter to have to wait around. I tend to agree with that but also like you said, think he should be more gracious in defeat.

jordan.ellis2w ago

Not to write off a young guy, but I think he needs to leave the UFC and learn his trade elsewhere. They've given him the easiest matchup possible and he got slept in 12 seconds. Regroup out of the limelight and come back in a few years.
