Is Gable Steveson destined for greatness in MMA, like Jon Jones is predicting? 🤼
warrenjas332mo ago
Absolutely. I mean, he's a beast, sure, but my thing is the heavyweight division is so damn trash these days. Who's going to challenge him besides Aspinal? Literally no one. As long as he keeps his nose clean dudes gonna be a star.

I don't know anything about the guy except he is on the "UFC Hype Train" and I have a hard time trusting that.

I think he could be UFC champ, current heavyweight bunch not too impressive.

People are gonna be surprised by Gables striking.

Hyping him up with tin cans

I think he will be exposed by higher level striking anti wrestlers. Especially if more Glory guys come over. I don't know if its the lack of testing or just the countries and talent pools they draw from, but they have a lot of very athletic / talented Heavyweights... There has always been a strong Heavyweight division in pro kickboxing all the way back to K1

I mean he could end up being great or he could end up being injury prone his whole MMA career! Or he could be just a fluke and not really worth all the hype
arocco69816mo ago
That could be any fighter no matter how great they may be it only takes one serious injury to take you from being in Goat discussions to be in what ifs
arocco69816mo ago
After the crap he pulled when he agreed to have a grappling match vs Craig Jones and uses a BS excuse so he can protect his image I doubt he will be a GOAT contender, will he most likely have success possibly win a championship yes. His personality will also hinder his status in the eyes of some fans, which plays a bigger factor than people think.
arocco69816mo ago
Edit: The personality thing is just something that some elite athletes have, with age that should not hinder him, he has the best base now just get decent striking & he clears the division

He sure looks the package.
harvey.leonard7mo ago
And he would probably only need half the package to be successful in the current UFC heavyweight division

We won't know until he faces somebody even slightly legit. But he's for sure got the potential

I think he is Top 15 right now at minimum, give him a Top 15 opponent, 2nd fight Top 10, 3rd Top 5, by 4th fight if undefeated still give him title shot or #1 contender fight. I bought all his rookie gold cards psa 10, so im bias.
arocco69816mo ago
I would give him a few wrestlers first which would provide him an opportunity to refine his striking and with minimal risk of losing cause if he’s struggling on the feet he should not have a problem changing that situation when ever he wants.
dr.cheyno7mo ago
I think it will depend how well he performs. If he finishes opponents quickly and in an exciting way I wouldn't be surprised if Dana fast tracks him like he has done to others in the past. It also depends what he wants too though. He may want to take it slow, who knows as of yet. But I'm pretty sure anyone outside the top 5 he would mop the floor with.

UFC needs to sign him. Pretty sure he could beat top 10 HWs right now.
arocco69816mo ago
I agree especially considering the current state of the division, he has what in my humble opinion is the best base style to excel at being Wrestling, any competent team will focus on leg lock/heel hook defense which is the only submissions that their skill set i doesn’t defend against. I do hope they give the opportunity to get well rounded striking.
kyle.dimond9mo ago
I still think it's too early to tell but he's probably the safest bet of any MMA prospect considering the depth of the heavyweight division
arocco69816mo ago
Especially where his base is wrestling which in my opinion is the most important skill to have in modern MMA, to dictate where the fight goes is a major tactical advantage, but if I was part of his team I wouldn’t want to place him against a good striker to early & avoid only elite BJJ until he has solid defense against leg locks, heel hooks ect

There aren't many who can dethrone an mma champion with only a couple fights I've always felt it's the ability to absorb big hits and pain to be a mma champion.
arocco69816mo ago
True and though Lesnar took the heavyweight title from Randy Couture very early in his career, Randy is really a light heavyweight, that size difference and the fact that although Randy had good boxing his strength was wrestling so going against a higher skilled wrestler and then give the guy a 50 plus pound weight advantage I would say was the exception

NHi , I haven't seen Gable Stevenson fighting big names. Please don't get me wrong cause I also would like to see Francis Ngannou fight good fighters. If you guys think Stevenson is the man dethrone Ngannou, then please organise the fight. Persuade UFC to stage that fight
